Streets & Trips 2009 S&T Keys (work-in-progress)

UPDATE S&T Keys 2009 Beta 002 is here.
Adds a new toggle button for Map/Navigation view.
Restores the F8 navigation functions.
Detects the GPS icon in the map to determine if GPS is on or off for route recalculations to work around the new Start/Stop GPS tracking button.
Fixes the blinking screens when recalculating a route.
Added in F4 menu two buttons for Provide Navigation and Arrange map view.

It still needs some work for the options menu screens but all the main functions appear to work now.

I've adjusted a version of Keys for Streets & Trips 2009. Keep in mind this is a beta version for testing. It is functioning and should enable people to get by as a more polished version is done. More work needs to be done on new buttons for the navigation view and map view in the GPS pane. I've uploaded in the zip file the Streets & Trips 2009 Keys Beta 001.exe file along with the source code and the logo icon I used for those interested to play with it.

new alternate ids for the GPS and route planner:

for the directions and navigation pane I had to use the CTR+ shortcuts. They are pretty solid when used in conjunction with the F4 menu. I haven't had any missed starts or ends.

altered find nearby start function. Not as pretty as before, but it works. I used the send function. In this case the CTR+ shortcut was flaky at best.

reactivated GPS trail button and perspective map view
although I didn't remove the disactivated text in the options menu. More needs to be done here to reflect the new S&T 2009. More is needed in the F4 menu to reflect the new buttons needed too.

reactivated the osk keyboard for vista

One known bug that needs to be worked on is the S&T program sometimes starts flashing when started with Keys, but once it's started it looks good.

How did you manage to find the IDs for the above buttons? That was my stumbling block . I used AutoIt Window Tool, and all I was getting was 5010 for most buttons on the menu bar! I know the Window Tool is not perfect, but I was just simply under the impression Microsoft changed something in Streets and Trips, because the Window Tool had no problem reading those particular buttons in previous versions.

I'll try to spare some time over the weekend to see what you've done.

Don't feel bad that some features are not functional. I suspect you've done much more than I intended to do. I know it will take us a while to implement most changes that need to be implemented because of the new features in Streets & Trips 2009.

I think Microsoft did change something. In the tool bar on top I have the same problem . I noticed that in the GPS pane there's a button to open the route planner. In the route planner pane there's a button for the GPS pane. These buttons work when they are called with the code even if the parent pane isn't opened and the window info tool works on these two buttons.

Even without it, the CTR+ method works very well when used with the F4 menu. There's also the key strokes send codes, but this is less fluid looking.

I finally used a mixture of the three methods to reach a high reliability rate. I suspect a fourth method of clicking on a specific coordinate in the top tool bar could also work. This would mean both large icons and small icons would need to be configured. Like you I much prefer the direct codes when they can be found.

How about the missing check box for Start GPS Tracking in Streets & Trips 2009? Have you attempted to do some changes in that area? I think a couple of features in S&T Keys used the check box.

Keys still starts GPS tracking when opening S&T with the check box. It's the same code as the Start/stop GPS button

I expect the features should still work. From memory, I don't remember which features use it.

F4+G in the beta 001 version, it could replace the pause/restore GPS F4+Pause eventually. Will have to see where we go with this later on.

When I rt click on keys icon - and select ck for updates, it gives me the message, "no internet conection found", but then I select go to web site & here I am!

I suspect toyfountain has disabled (or didn't use) that feature. The function was in the original S&T Keys, and I will try to continue supporting the feature (when I get around to working on S&T Keys again), but for now ignore the feature.

No, I haven't used the auto update. I guess to use it, I'd have to use a higher version number and have the file uploaded in the appropriate folder on your site. Since it's still beta. I don't think I would attempt it right now.

Since S&T can now start the GPS itself, and turn off-on the autoreroute, I'm thinking od doing away with most the general, start and navigate options sections. These sections are giving me difficulties in running Keys since MS modified the Start/Stop GPS button in 2009. Maybe I'll find a way to do it, but it will take time.

I still have 18 days left in the trial version and Vista to get it done. After this I can have another 60 days on another laptop, but using XP. A problem, I just had a substantial accident with my van last week. Nobody was seriously hurt, but the van repairs far exceed the value and I have to find a replacement for it. This will take more time too, then Xmas will come around. For the curious, no, I wasn't using S&T when I had the accident.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Yes, we can safely remove a bunch of features from S&T Keys now. I haven't yet started to work seriously on my version, but it also crossed my mind to get rid of the update feature, too.

I am working on the Beta 3 version now and would release it in a couple of days, so please do not modify the actual Beta 2 version so we don't have to merge both versions later... .

I have a question, I'm hoping I've overlooked this but does the S&T program itself or S&T Keys have a way to see ETA at destination? I've looked but don't see any display of what time I should be at my destination. I'm hoping I've overlooked this ability, if not, it's pretty sad that running an overall good map program on a laptop costing hundreds, maybe even over a thousand bucks can't tell you when you'll be at your destination.

I've messed with S&T on the road while my wife has been driving and so far she hasn't asked me yet...when should we be arriving? LOL

The only information i am awared of is that in the driving direction pane, there is an estimate of the complete trip length at the bottom of the detailed list of direction. In the navigation pane, there is also an estimation also in time, but i don't remember exactly because i seldom use this (it is not very precise). Maybe others can comment...
