You might need to buy him a copy of Mappoint 2009.

That sounds like too much work, and it is kind of silly, too, because MapPoint is programmable. A programmer could create much better add-on for MapPoint, than what we have achieved struggling with this script.

S&T is a low cost solution for the home user. S&T keys is also a low cost solution (free) that is giving simple/not perfect enhancement to home user. MapPoint is not in the same product category. If someone has the budget for MapPoint, he would probably not being satisfied with a free tool like S&T Keys.

I cannot afford MapPoint myself, so this is another good reason why i cannot work on a specific version for this

I have good news for S&T keys 2009 progress

The new S&T Keys 2009 v2.53.7 beta5 version is here (see download below)

This version has major issues correction and minor enhancement (i hope). This version is a big effort to debug almost everything that can be used when travelling in navigation (full screen mode), because this is what i am using most myself. I think we are pretty near to a release version and that the beta phase is going to finish soon. What is needed most after this version is to do the same kind of debug effort while navigating not in full screen mode (what i am not using a lot).

What's new:

1- Added a second GPS stop function. Now you can use <Shift>PAUSE and not just PAUSE to stop GPS. The difference is that <Shift>PAUSE stops the GPS much like the previous S&T Keys 2007 version. I was liking this old functionnality and add it back to this new version like the good old days.
I am calling it "Stop GPS to planning mode", this will stop the GPS, exit full screen, remove the bottom guidance pane and zoom the actual route so it can be all seen on the screen including the start and end points. This is to prepare for planning the next step in the travel (this is where the name of the function is coming from)... I have also added this Shift Pause function in the F4 onscreen touch screen menu so it is available. It can also be used even when GPS is already stopped to correct the map when like for an example the route cannot be seen on the screen (outside of screen).

2- Move the OSK (On Screen Keyboard) option that was on the F4 menu at the bottom to the option menu, located with the other OSK options, to give more place to add more on screen buttons in the F4 menu.

Corrected issues:

1- +/- onscreen zoom buttons was not working in Fullscreen mode. I have not find a solution at the moment to give the exact same zooming feature as when not in full screen mode. For the moment, the zooming in full screen mode will work, but will revert to S&T zooming (same as -/+ keyboard S&T functions). On screen touchscreen +/- buttons will revert also to S&T default zooming in fullscreen mode. When not in full screen mode, the zooming function will follow the zooming increment defined in F4 option menu. PgUP/PgDn keys to control also the zooming are now working in both normal and fullscreen mode.

2- V, X, C and Z buttons are now disabled in fullscreen mode to avoid erratic behavior. Some improvement could be made for these later.

3- In fullscreen, using Q,S,P,H,T buttons will not keep the direction pane stuck on the screen anymore .

4- While F4 menu is onscreen, F9 function key is now working correctly.

5- While in FS mode, with F4 menu on screen, insert key pressed makes not closing the F4 menu, reacts erractically with gps trail setting and makes once the F4 menu is closing, the map window is out of focus, meaning the onscreen buttons disappear... It is now repaired.

6- When using F4 keyboard key for menu, it does not remove on screen buttons as compare of when using on screen F4 button. It is now repaired.

7- When in fullscreen using many hotkeys and F4 menu functions (like G), this remove focus from the map which cause problem for the zooming functions. All functions now that could cause out of focus of the map in full screen mode have been repaired.

8- When using END key to enter a new destination, in some situation the map can go where the route is not seen at all when the GPS icon is not moving. Now, the END function will do a similar job in this regard as the F5 key, it will center around the GPS icon the new route to make sure we can see the actual position on screen while the car is not moving.

9- Using F6 keys to insert a pushpin at GPS icon will deal with the onscreen touch buttons correctly while processing as expected (this slow the performance a bit as compared to previous beta 4 version. We will see if it is acceptable).

10- When pressing any of the onscreen touchscreen buttons (F4,+,-), it will now remove them all of the screen while processing the current function to avoid pressing another one at the same time.

11- When pressing the PAUSE key and the safety warning is on screen, disable the hotkey 'A' if enabled so it can be used to answer the safety warning prompt.

12- Corrected F6 text in help menu (when using F1 key).

13- When using F4 menu, disable in option menu the button to update the software because it is not working now.

Known issues:

Actually, there are still some not tested parts and i am planning to work on it soon. I will add informations here if i am finding something in the near future.

1- In start and navigation tab of options menu, check boxes have been used instead of radio buttons for implementation of MapView/NavigationView selection to avoid conflict in these windows with the radio buttons for Dynamic turn/center (i didn't find any other way to use radio buttons). This is purely esthetic rather than a problem. And it will cause curious behavior when first used, as these check boxes behave much more as radio buttons than check boxes (two click in a row on the same unchecked box will unexpectedly revert the choice to the opposite choice :-), which is desired behavior...).

2- Sometime in safety warning prompt while navigating, pressing the 'A' key to accept may be missed the first time. A second 'A' key pressed may be needed to accept the warning. I have not found yet the reason for this behavior.

3- In fullscreen mode, while pressing the "PGDN" key for zooming, it will trigger the top screen popup like when moving the mouse. I have not find yet the reason of this behavior. It is not doing this with the "PGUP" key.

4- F1 help text is outdated and needs modifications to add all supported functions.

5- The touch screen buttons positions are a little outside of the map screen in normal and full screen view

6- When using F6 key in navigation view mode, S&T switch to mapview mode, but the GPS task pane is not, causing some wierd behavior later

With all the diff posts on ST Keys, not sure where to go for updates. Is there an update since 2.53.7?

I kinda miss the old icon from 2008. The opaque little laptop dzn't stand out.

The latest version for S&T Keys (for S&T 2009) is 2.53.7 beta5.

Until the official release version, all next update will be available here from this thread...

For the 2008 version icon, i must say that i don't even know what it looks like I never used at all the 2008 version of S&T (because of the auto-reroute function that was not configurable), so i made a jump from 2007 to 2009 version of S&T Keys also!

But i promise i will take a look at it

Any other suggestions for improvement are greatly welcome in this thread. So go ahead and don't hesitate to submit your great ideas

It is an old version. If you start it, you can check for the icon in windows task tray, then lay your mouse over it, it will display the version...

The latest version was made available around a week ago

I'll go ahead & download again, but fyi - when I "hover" the mouse over the icon, while it does tell me the version, but not which beta release. i.e., "S&T Keys 2009 2.53.7" Maybe something like "S&T Keys 2009 2.53.7-B5"

Hmmm...Looks too much like "BS". Never mind. :-)

FWIW, I loved S&T keys for the '08 version and am interested in the '09 version, since I just bought it.

I'm not sure I am interested in a lot of extra keyboarding for functions I probably wouldn't ever use (ie, pause GPS? ) and would likely confuse me in the event of accidentally popping one on that I don't know how to unpop while I'm looking for an off-ramp on a DC Beltway.

I like the "KISS" principle... and like practicality. For my vote, Please don't over-engineer a help into a hinderance for Joe Sixpack. You have me a bit concerned.

There is a known issue that if you opened a previous S&T file of an old version that was converted, in some cases you cannot add new pushpins. Look at this thread for a possible workaround:

Streets & Trips map file won't create pushpins
