HI

*in the img folder are over 30 12134.img files.

I installed the mexico Gps Atlas08 and unlocked it. BUt i can,t see how the img files work. Must i copy it to a special folder??? And will it be in conflict with the Mexico city guide that i install first with MApsource.?

SO i understand the img files are already compiled so there should be easy to use but i don,t understand how ??? I also looked in the forum but i find no answer that help me...
How will mobile notice that there are *.img file

Or have i convert it all to a format that mapsource can read.. I tried that too but in this case i have over 30 img files...

PLease

I need to ask some questions to understand what your problem might be.

1. Can you view the maps in Mapsource? Do they display properly so you can see the cities and towns and streets and highways? Can you zoom in and out?

2. In Mapsource can you use the Route tool to create a route? Can you search for an address or city or point of interest (POI)?

3. What Garmin device did you unlock them for? Mobile PC? An eTrex handheld? A Nuvi or StreetPilot? Some other Garmin device?

If you can answer these questions, we can help you.

Answer to the questions:

1. NO. Its not Possible to load *.IMG files into Mapsource. Because they are already compiled.
2.Same as 1. it not possible to load *.img files into Mapsource.
3. Mobile PC

MY Problem
is i don,t knoe how to handle this *.img files (See also my Foto form the first Post) thats my folder after i installed the Road Maps Mexico. But i can,t see them in Mobile PC. ( Also not in my Mobile PC under tools "map set")
My second question is when i load for example Mexico City NT into my Mobile Pc and then Mexico road maps.. HOw work this together..
or for example for America road maps and City maps....

What i using it for.
I am so clad for Help i actualy wanted to go the next days on my trip from San Diego to Chili so i decided in the last minute for a GPS system, after i read how useful that can be even in South America with 3Party maps.
But this maps came in *.img format. How to handle this..
tcassidy
The files names you show look like a typical set for maps. Are you comfortable with editing your registry? If so you could proably make them work with MapSource.

They will not work with Mobile PC though unless you have a GPS20x and a spare license. What did you unlock them to...a handheld?

I have only a Mobile PC i have no other device !

So when they are not working with Mobile PC my question of this threat ("Are *.img files useless for Garmin Mobile PC?") is solved, because i just can,t use them and that it.. Sad but true... ;-(

Thx for this Fact i could't find this info...

But i still curios how to modify the regedt32 for unsing *.img in Mapsource.

So, why doesn't it work with MapSource? I can't say I fully understand the registry in this format but it looks ok.

mapsource-20081029.jpg

See the Photo... under the point File -> open you can,t choose the file format *.img only *.gbd *.gpx and *.loc Files

so i how do you load a *.img file in mapsource ... ????
Ken in Regina
According to those Registry entries City Navigator Mexico is properly installed in Mapsource.

It looks like there is are two maps installed in Mapsource:

MexicoGPSMap08
City Navigator Mexico NT 2008

You need to click the map selector dropdown menu and select City Navigator Mexico. The map selector dropdown is just below the FILE menu on the upper left corner of Mapsource.

In your original post you said you unlocked City Navigator Mexico and your pictures show the Unlock Wizard with City Navigator Mexico listed. Did you successfully unlock City Navigator Mexico NT 2008?

If you did not successfully unlock City Navigator Mexico NT 2008, I don't think you will be able to view the detail maps in Mapsource or do anything else with them.

If the City Navigator Mexico maps were not unlocked successfully, when you run Mapsource it should tell you that there are locked maps and ask you if you want to run the Unlock Wizard to unlock them.

You don't "open" map (*.img) files in Mapsource. Mapsource already knows all about them from the Registry entries and will display them when you select the right map product.

See my previous message about the map selector dropdown. Or you can use the VIEW menu, select "Switch to Product", select City Navigator Mexico NT 2008.

That should make City Navigator Mexico display on the screen instead of the MexicoGPSmap08 that is probably displayed right now. If City Navigator Mexico NT 2008 is not unlocked it might not display the detailed maps.

2. HOw interfere MAp in the same area together linke MExico Citys and Mexico Road Maps, anyway i trie it now...
Ken in Regina
I am not familiar with MexicoGPSMap08. I can't help you with it.

The registry looks right. Can you see MexicoGPSMap08 when you use the map selector?

Have you looked at this forum?
http://vagos.wamba.com/showthread.php?t=361189&page=6

They might help you with how to install other maps that do not have installation files. Be careful when you go there because the website pops up may windows of garbage. My virus scanner did not find any trouble. They just look like annoying advertising.

You can only see one map product at a time in Mapsource.

You can use Mapsource to combine different map products into one map to use in Mobile PC and in other Garmin GPS devices. But you cannot view them together. You cannot view them together in Mapsource and you cannot view them together in the device you transfer them to. You can only choose to view one or the other at one time.

There is a special kind of map that is called a transparent overly. This kind of map can be combined with a normal map so you can see both. These are not a common kind of map. You can use Mapsource to combine a transparent overlay map with other maps and you can view the combined map in the device you transfer it to. But you can never view the combined map in Mapsource.

HI unfurtunaly
I can,t choose the maps they woun't go to Yellow and not appear in the map area on the right. To upload it to Mobile Pc

Do i have to plug in the Gps device and start Mobile PC to choose the maps. I have it now in the car ...
THx some mutch for your help i hope i can solve this problem today so i can go tomorrow...
tcassidy
If the image files for the other maps have the same layout as your existing ones, you can add an entry in the Registry under Families, similar to the ones you have already. They would need the proper key name to point to the map and entries as the existing ones pointing to the appropriate folder.

No you don't have to start Mobile PC (or plug in the GPS). Are you sure you have unlocked the maps you want to transfer?

exwro,

I'm still confused.

Exactly what are you trying to do with the maps you already have loaded in Mapsource?

What do you want to do with City Navigator Mexico NT 2008?

What do you want to do with MexicoGPSMap08?

I can see in your pictures that you are able to view the MexicoGPSMap08 map in Mapsource. Why are you trying to unlock them? Are they locked? Did you buy them from Garmin?

Hi
What is suggested by the spanish message is to hack the map.
I'm not sure you are on the right forum to get this answer.

Now if your maps are unlocked with your GMPC ID under Mapsource, just use the tool to select the area you whant to send to your Garmin mobile pc.

Michel, welcome to Laptop GPS World.

Thanks for helping with the translation. Yes, you are correct, if the procedure requires some illegal hack, then this would not be the right forum to discuss it. Thanks.
