I am presently using Streets & Trips 2007 and am pretty happy with it. I often think about what a great thing this would have been during the 40 or so years I spent as a pilot in northern Canada. I retired from flying just as GPS was starting to be installed in aircraft. When I started in the north, even maps were a luxury.
I am considering upgrading to S&T 2009 but was wondering how The Delorme Street Atlas compares to S&T. Some of you are probably using both systems and I would like to know what the pros and cons of the two systems are.

I drive semi truck, and yes, do use both with GPS in both programs. In fact, I have just purchased both of the 2009 versions. I use Streets & Trips 98% of the time as it is far more accurate on street addresses. If Streets & Trips can't find what I'm looking for, I will check the DeLorme program. That OCCASIONALLY has the address the other doesn't, but it's very rare. Another feature I like very much is that Streets & Trips will keep North at the top of the screen, and DeLorme is constantly rotating the screen according to the driving direction. That drives this truck driver crazy..., but some people like it that way. I update my software every year when they update, and did not like the S&T 2008 version at all, but the 2009 version seems to be working very well so far. That's my humble opinion, and only worth 2 cents... in this depreciating economy.
I would not switch to SA just because of the maps. It is a totally different interface you would need to learn. From my limited experience, the maps for Canada are better in S&T 2009.
If you would like to consider a new interface, look at Garmin Mobile PC. The same NavTeq maps as S&T and a great laptop display. However, setting up complex routes is quite a different approach than S&T.

I just wanted to let you know that if you do not want the screen to rotate in the GPS direction, just click "Options", "GPS Settings", and unclick "Rotate Map in GPS Direction". Click Apply and your software would show north up.

I have SA and S&T. They both have their little quirks. They both have mistakes in mapping. They're about equal, as far as I'm concerned. Accessing the features is completely different in each. They're not terribly expensive. If you can afford it, buy both and play with them. Choose the one that's the easiest to negotiate.
