DeLorme LT-40 and Garmin Mobile PC pair from hell

HAS ANYONE SUCCEDED CONNECTING LT-40 TO GMPC?
Have XP SP3
GMPC can't recognize LT-40
My PC has physical port COM1
Delorme's serial adapter configured to NMEA output COM2
GMPC ver5.00.50 gives choice COM1, COM3 and COM4, NOT COM2
tried XPort - can create virtual ports COM7 and up to over COM127, GMPC does not recognize them. In Xport, I cannot select ports COM1 through C6 as virtual port
Tried Eltima virtual port software - GMPC does not see them
Tried to disable COM1 in BIOS - GMPC sees only COM3 and COM4 (which do not exist in my system, GMPC is obviously hallucinating)
This is maddening.

What can I do?
GPS gate? This costs more than the LT-40 is worth, com0com? Who knows if either would work?
Tried M$ Pharos and it worked, though I want to make LT-40 work

Can you configure the DeLorme serial adapter to COM3 or 4?

Are you using Xport 1.26? Earlier versions did not work with Mobile PC.

GPSGate has a free trial period if you want to give it a whirl. Nothing lost except a little time if it doesn't work. You need Mobile PC 5.00.50 and GPSGate 2.6

Is the LT-40 Bluetooth or USB? If it's either of those, you can tell Mobile PC to search for a Bluetooth or USB receiver directly instead of on the virtual COM ports (but you've probably already tried that...).

I TRIED 1.27

I TRIED VIRTUAL PORT BY ELTIMA AND GMPC WON'T RECOGNIZE VIRTUAL PORTS

Hi

GMPC will find your GPS if you have a valid signal so come close to a window or go outside.
After a few try it will find even the virtual ports. You just have to click on connect and disconnect a few times in GMPC.
Gpsgate or Gpsproxy... are useless even if they can work.

You can also try to upgrade your bluetooth drivers if your GPS is bluetooth.

Sorry to be persistent. Do you have Mobile PC version 5.00.50? At least one earlier version had a problem with serial ports.

Ken, you are genius. My version was 5.00.10, I forgot to update. As soon as I did, it found the xport port and works fine. Murphy's law lives!

What we want to know is will 5.00.50 support the LT-40 directly (without a helper program)?

I have an LT-20 with the same issues of the LT-40. It will scan and nothing is found. I found the Xport 1.3 program. Could you please post up what settings I need to adjust to make this work correctly? I really appreciate any help you can provide. I'll send you a PM just in case you don't see this msg.

Thanks!

edit: I forgot to mention mine is DeLORME USB Earthmate GPS LT-20 to be exact.

The serial port converter for the LT-20 is on the Delorme site.
http://www.delorme.com/support/supporttemplate.aspx?id=319

Download it and check which COM port it assigns. GMPC should find it on that COM port without the use of Xport. Make sure your GMPC is upgraded to the latest version (5.00.60)

I have never used the converter or LT-20 so can only assume it will work.

This would be great, but I haven't found any way to make it work.
