You've done a lot of excellent work with this version, MisterMoonlight!

I'll read your feature list a bit later today, and then I will download it and play with it to see how it works.

Mister Moonlight, does this work on MapPoint 2009 as well?

Currently (for Europe) I'm running MapPoint 2009. I'm about to create an add-on similar to S&T/AR Keys. However it should be of specific help in case one doesn't have a keyboard (like I do when using the Asus R2H in the car.)

One of the harder parts will be a POI notification that I would like to write. At run time I want to download new POI coordinates for speed cams and put them as POI's in MapPoint. Then I want to have the programm check if a POI of that type is nearby. If so a sound should be played.
Have you got any idea on how to arrange something like this?

I'm using the MapPoint 2009 object model with Visual Basic .Net.

Thanks!
MisterMoonlight
What i know so far is that it is not working with MapPoint 2009. Probably only minor needed modifications are requiered.

The only problem is that i don't have mappoint 2009 and cannot afford this type of expense for a free tool. Because my main purpose is to get a fresh version of S&T as often as possible to keep having fresh map data, switching to a more expensive product would keep me from doing this.

But probably, better reliability could be achieved by using the programming support of mappoint instead of this scripting tool. This is the direction i would go myself for mappoint, instead of relying on a modified version of S&T Keys.

But as a first attempt, you may try to modify S&T Keys to make it compatible. The source are compiled with autoit v3.2.10.0.

There are a couple of improvements and bugs corrections needed to make POI scanner working and reliable with S&T 2009...

I agree with MisterMoonlight. The only reason AutoIt scripting tool was used to create S&T Keys, is that Streets & Trips is not programmable like its bigger brother MapPoint.

You can potentially achieve much better results with MapPoint. I'd suggest you to visit Eric's MapForums MapPoint Forums -- there you will find many MapPoint programmers able to answer your questions better than anyone of us here.

When you create something, please do let us know. Unfortunately AutoRoute has been discontinued, but I believe there still are quite a few people in Europe who need the functionality, and who will be willing to spend the money to buy MapPoint Europe.

If you wish, you are more than welcome to host your future add-on here at the forum. Best of luck!
Plantje
Marvin,

I have already subscribed to the Mapforums forum, but for some reason the activation E-mail is not sent to my mail address. It seems to be a site where I can find everything I need! Thanks!
Marvin Hlavac
Plantje, let Eric know ( http://www.mapforums.com/sendmessage.php ), I'm sure he will correct it. You may also try to check your e-mail junk folder, if perhaps the registration confirmation e-mail ended up there.
Plantje
Yes, I've sent out an E-mail.

My junk mail was empty. Perhaps I can use one of my other E-mail addresses.

Ow...by the way: obviously any delivered add ons will be posted here and on the gpspassion forums, completely free of charge.

MisterMoonlight, I'm just playing with S&T Keys 2009, and one of the things I've noticed is that the old screensaver feature could be now removed, since Streets & Trips 2009 now has the same functionality already built-in.

If you feel like removing it, I just looked to your included .au3 file, you could remove the code:

* line #260 $KillScreenSaver = IniRead(@UserProfileDir & "\Keys.ini", "Section1", "KillScreenSaver", 0)

* starting on line #770 If $KillScreenSaver = 1 Then
* ending on line #782 EndIf

* starting on line #3227 Case $msg = $checkScreenSaver And BitAND(GUICtrlRead($checkScreenSaver), 1) = 1
* ending on line #3232 Global $KillScreenSaver = 0

* two lines, 3671 and 3672, starting with $checkScreenSaver = GUICtrlCreateCheckbox.........

Yes it is possible that a couple of things need cleanup, like the appearance (grayed out) of virtual AR2009 on the general tab of options (which would never exist). This mean some Gui cleanup as well. It was not my main purpose in this version. I wanted to release a version as quick as possible well debugged with at least no feature that are not working.

May be you can add your suggestions (move the threads) to the
http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/1283-s-t-keys-streets-trips-2009-wish-list .
These changes would need to modify the product documentation page as well...

One other thing that is coming in my mind is S&T Keys would probably gain in speed by optimizing the code...
Marvin Hlavac
It's not a big deal, MM, just a minor suggestion. The part of the code mentioned above (lines #770 to #782) is in the main While loop, so I though it would be useful to get rid of it.
MisterMoonlight
Does anybody is using S&T Keys 2009 release version v2.53.7 with microsoft Vista?

Does it work well under Vista or some issues have been found?

Thanks
JLHOG
I downloaded S&T Keys a few days ago for my Compaq running Vista. So far all seems good.

Good news

Any other experiment?
Marvin Hlavac
I have not experienced any crashes, or anything unexpected either.
HocusPocus
Keys will not open last used file on one of my laptops. It is xp pro, every thing is set exactly as on the first system but it will only open the original file when starting. S&T 2009, latest keys 2.54, 2gig hz pent, 1 gig memory. Any suggestions ??
HP
MisterMoonlight
Can you give additional details of what you have done exactly?
Marvin Hlavac
... also, open Streets & Trips, and then on the menu bar click File (Alt+F). There on the bottom (above Exit) you should see listed your last used files. Click on the #1. What happens? Does the file open? (If it does, S&T Keys should likely be able to open it, too.)
HocusPocus
The first last file in the file menu will open correctly with a click, that is what I don't understand . I have reinstalled keys to no avail. this system was a clean install of XP. I haven't tried other functions in keys, but will do so soon. I have four laptops running S&T and keys and also run Delorme on them. I have probably installed keys on 20 systems and have never had any problems, but this is the first one with XP pro that was installed by a corporate IT person and I feel something isn't set correctly.
HP
Marvin Hlavac
Try to disable starting last used file, and then enable the feature again. See if that helps.
HocusPocus
Tried your suggestion Marvin, didn't work. Tried F1,F2,F4and F6 these all worked ok.
HP
Marvin Hlavac
Check the Keys.ini file. On my (Vista) laptop I can locate it in the following location:

C:\Users\Marvin\Keys.ini

The file should contain the following line:

OpenLastSavedFile=1
HocusPocus
It is a 1

Marvin or Mister Moonlight,

What is the default behaviour in Keys if the operating system refuses to allow Open permission on the last-used file? Does it then default to a default or primary file?

XP Pro (and all versions of Vista and Windows 7) has the notion of Ownership that XP Home does not. This can cause all sorts of unusual situations that are never encountered in XP Home or earlier versions of Windows.

One thing that has helped on both my XP Pro system and my Vista system is to set the option for "Use Simple File Sharing" on. Yes, even if you aren't networked or allowing file sharing on that machine or drive or folder. It has a side-effect on how XP Pro (and onward) deals with file ownership and permissions.

(How-To: In Windows Explorer (aka My Computer) in the folder with the offending last-used file - click TOOLS - click FOLDER OPTIONS - click the VIEW tab - scroll to the bottom of the list and check "Use Simple File Sharing" - click APPLY button. You may also have to click the "Apply To All Folders" button if you want this to apply across the entire machine .. I can't recall now.)

This may have no effect but it's simple to turn on and off so it's probably worth a shot.

...ken...
HocusPocus
Set to simple and all folders, still not working. Has to be something like this as other keys functions work ok. Thanks for trying to help.

Marvin Hlavac
Sorry, I have been busy last few hours, and I haven't had the time to look into it. Going by what I remember, S&T Keys finds out the name of the last used file by reading the registry, and then it opens the file. I'll try to look at the code later tonight when I get home.
HocusPocus
Found the problem. Somehow S&T got set to save files as templates, Do not belive I did it but it happened when moving files from another computer. Because all maps other than the basic NA map were templates it could only open NA Map as it cant open templates. The FILE last used menu doesn't show file type. It only took me about 4 hrs to find this. Stupid is as stupid does. hehehe
Thanks for the help

Marvin Hlavac
HP, thanks for your persistence in looking for the cause of the issue! It saved us all time.

Not stupid at all cause you find the problem by yourself

On all the systems you installed S&T Keys (>20 ), did you get any kind of problems?
HocusPocus
Installations were on 2007, 2008, 2009 over their time span. Run of mill prob, but monitored the gps passion forum and now here to get fixes. Mostly used by fellow RV type people and in conjunction with Delorme. Most use Delorme for nav and S&T for backup poi finding.
HP
MisterMoonlight
I am more interested about finding bugs in the 2009 version (the actual current version) if you found some...
HocusPocus
2009 on 4 sys, only problem was the file opening one. As I said these are used by RV troops, not to much rving in 0 deg weather of New England. Not many functions are used if not using S&T as primary nav program. If I help someone instal I only check a few basic functions. I have laptops in my car and my MH.

Is there a way to import favorites from address book to S&T Keys?
I use laptop everyday as a delivery driver and we do go to many places over and over as we deliver.

Just take a look at the S&T Keys documentation in section "4.1 Favorite Destinations File Format" in first post of the thread,

So...
I had v 2.53.7, which puts a little laptop icon in your quick launch bar.

I installed v 2.54, which put the familiar little "K" on the bar.

HOWEVER, for some reason, the 2.54 "disapears" and my computer reverts back to the older version. No more little blue K, and the laptop back with the old version#.

What on earth is going on?!?
cooknkpl
Fyi...
I re-installed 2.54, everything looked fine, then re-booted computer & back it went to 2.53.7!
cooknkpl
Anyone?...Anyone?
Bueller?...Bueller?
Marvin Hlavac
Try to delete 2.53.7 file from your computer.
cooknkpl
That worked! got my familiar little blue & gold 'K" back! Thx!

I was wondering since I am new and have not used Streets and trips before and also I just got my first laptop. How can I copy this file so that it goes to my desktop. That way when I need to reference it, it probab;y would be easier than trying to put the file in the S&T Folder. If I am wrong please let me know. IF I need to copy the folder to desk top can I just cut and paste the file. If so do I need to add all the options or only the one I might use like the touch screen or pop up screen. Thank you for all your hard work. jd
Marvin Hlavac
Judy, yes, just copy & paste the one file to your desktop location. I have also always kept mine on the desktop.
MisterMoonlight
Thanks Marvin for the help...

I think i missed that issue
CLAUDE
I'm going to Europe soon and I plan to try AutoRoute. Will S&T hotkeys for Streets and Trips work with AutoRoute also, or do I need to download a different software?
Marvin Hlavac
Claude, S&T Keys 2007 would work with both, AutoRoute 2007 and Streets & Trips 2007. If your Streets & Trips version is newer, e.i. S&T 2009, then you will need S&T Keys 2009. You will most likely need two versions of keys.exe.
MisterMoonlight
Claude,

I am not sure if 2 versions of keys can live at the same time on the same computer without issues because they will both use the same configuration files keys.ini. There were no tests made to support many differents version at the same time.

It may work, but i suggest you to backup your keys.ini file before switching from one version of keys to the other...

Keys may start the wrong version of S&T if there are more than one installed?

So take care, you are in an unexplored zone here...

No, that indeed would not work. When in USA/Canada/Mexico, use the new 2009 version of keys.exe, and while in Europe, use the 2007 version of keys.exe. (Make sure the wrong keys.exe is not running)
BigBoreBastard
I just bought S&T 2009 with the GPS locator... Great program... But I just found they "Keys" for this...

Let me say this... What a FABULOUS concept!!!

Who ever thought of doing this is slightly short of Genius!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
MisterMoonlight
Marvin Hlavac, the forum administrator got this idea few years ago

Thanks Marvin
Marvin Hlavac
...and now MisterMoonlight is improving on the idea

Thanks MisterMoonlight

Well, with some basic at the desktop testing (no road time) it appears that S&T 2009 + S&T Keys 2009 works fine with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit RC. Infact I've yet to see the problem that I often saw running them on XP Pro, S&T 2009 crashing when closing.

System:
Toshiba Satellite R20
Intel T2300 1.66Ghz
1G ram
GPS-500 connected to USB
MisterMoonlight
After a long time without news about S&T Keys, here are some: i should release before the end of the month a new version of S&T Keys 2009 (maybe the last one? for this product year).

That version will correct some bugs, improve already existing functions and also will add a couple of new interesting feature as well (some of them were requested on the forum).

After this release, the code base would be used for 2010 new baby (someday i hope!)

So stay tune
