This seems like an issue that should be reported to Garmin, especially since it used to work in the past (before version 5.00.10).

Thanks for the welcome Marvin, Is there a way for me to get the earlier version, that way I can be certain its not a problem with my laptop gps or some other issue?

You can add Garmin to the GPS Enabler application, and launch it from there once you have selected "start" tracking.
Works on my SL500.
