Does Streets & Trips work well with Bluetooth GPS receivers?

I have a bluetooth GPS that I have used with past pda/smartphones.

I have a copy of Streets & Trips 2008 installed on a HP dv2000 and I may install it on a Fujitsu Lifebook u810 that I don't use too much (or I may download the free 60 day trial of 2009).

I have had problems with audio limitations and the Windows bluetooth drivers in the past (to streaming...just file transfer).

Should I expect the same for use with the GPS?

Any pointers to avoid pulling my hair out in the next few hours???

Thanks

Hi Deemo

Welcome to Laptop GPS World.

I have mostly used USB GPS receivers, so others may be able to offer more feedback on Bluetooth issues. But on several occasions I've tested (briefly) a variety of Bluetooth GPS receivers, too, but I don't recall ever experiencing issues with Streets & Trips or other software.

Streets and Trips works fine with the built-in Bluetooth stack in XP and Vista. Make sure you note which COM port the BT software assigns when you let it find your GPS. Then point S&T to that COM port.

Make sure you select the choice to use the passkey included with your GPS. It will probably be 0000 (four zeros). If you choose to not use a passkey, you will have to find the GPS with BT every time you want to use it.
