How to import POI's to ALK CoPilot 11?

In CoPilot Truck Laptop 9 you could import an OV2 file along with the bitmap for an icon simply by dropping into the "NA\Save" folder. I tried this with version 11 and it didn't work. Does anyone know if there's a way to do it in version 11? Thanks.

Re: How to import POI's to ALK CoPilot 11?

These are the instructions I received for using a csv file that holds the data. Hopefully you can make it work for you:

Quote:
Here is the procedure:

Attention: This is a "back-door" method to transfer your custom POI's to CPT 11 from CPT ver 9. Use at your own risk. Ensure that you keep your original install disk for CoPilot Truck 11 and the install key in case you have to repair or reinstall the program. This procedure is a work-around until (if and when) ALK releases a patch to add the POI manager into CPT 11.

Transferring Custom POI's from CPT 9 to CPT 11:

On CPT 9:
1. In the "Planning Mode" screen, open "Tools / Manage Custom Places." In the window that pops up, you will see al of the custom places that you have created in the past. It does not mater what you have listed in the "Type" column, but they must all be in the "Custom" category. You can view this by highlighting the poi "Name" and clicking "Edit." Once you have ensured that your custom POI's are named properly, you can close this window.

2. Go to the top of the planning mode screen and click on "Tools / Export Custom Places." A window will pop up and you have to name the exported file. It does not matter what you name the file or where you save it to - just as long as you remember where it went, of course. The file will save as a standard "txt" file.

3. Close down Co-Pilot Truck ver 9 now.

4. The file that you saved needs to be converted to what is called an ".ov2" file to be used by CPT version 11 now. There are various online and other converters to do this. I recommend using the one at http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/.

5. Set the fields on the "GPSBabel" link converter mentioned in step 4 as follows:
- Type of GPS data = Waypoints
- Input file format = Universal csv with field structure in the first line
- Output file format = TomTom POI file (.ov2)
- Zip archive = no
- Try to output all types = yes

6. On the GPS Visualizer page, click "browse" now and identify where you saved your output POI file in step 2 above.

7. Click "Convert the file."

8. The page will refresh and will give you a link to now download your converted file (it will now end with .ov2)

9. Save that file to where your CPT 11 is loaded on your hard drive in the "NA / Save" folder. For instance, in Windows Vista the path will typically be "C:/Users/Public/Public Apps/Alk Technologies/CoPilot Laptop/NA/Save."

10. Start up Co-Pilot Truck 11. When it is starting now, you will see a momentary message across the bottom this time about it adding and updating your new file that you saved earlier in step 9.

11. After a few seconds, CPT 11 will start normally and your Custom POI's will now be in the "Custom" section of POI's. If your Custom POI alerts are turned on, then they will show up on your route as you approach them. Also, you can route to them now by using the POI option while you are adding a new trip.

I have no idea if adding your POI's from your CPT 9 to the new version in this manner will affect any eventual patches to correct this issue in the future by ALK. This is an advanced work-around that you can use as of this time to add multiple Custom POI's from your previous version of CPTruck.

Thanks for the reply. I already have the OV2 file that I've made previously. I did all those steps, and when version 11 started, it showed the progress bar indicating that it was updating, but after it was finished, they still are not there.

Look in your "Custom POI" category. That's where they should be. I can't verify what category CoPilot imports them in since I uninstalled v11 a few months back.

That's where I looked, and they're not there.
