my 2008 st has major lagging in gps tracking arrow. its so slow i can not use it. example i leave my house and 1 mile away on the high way the tracking arrow is on my street. it is usual a couple of miles behind. i tried 2 differant blue tooth recievers an the wired usb ms receiver. all the same slow reponse. i use garmin and copilot with no problems. tech support at the ms camp shake their heads. any ideas out there would be greatly appreciated.

Problem fixed. GpsGate was creating the lag in tracking. Will reinstall GpsGate and hope its back to normal.

I can't say I have ever seen this problem with GPS Gate. Why are you using it? Are you running more than one mapping program at the same time? Maybe the computer is a little overloaded and causing the delay.

If you really need to split your gps to more than one software at the same time, you can give a try to the free Xport to see if it is causing you the same kind of lagging.

You can find it here: Xport

I found that GpsGate is the problem. I'm running Streets & Trips 2008 on t61s Bluetooth program. I'm running 3 different GPS programs not at once but at different times pending tracking preference. One thing I notice is Streets & Trips is now about 5 seconds slow in tracking. Any ideas?

I cannot see why GPSGate would cause a delay. However, if you are not running the navigation programs concurrently, why bother with GPS Gate at all. Any one of those programs should be able to access the COM port that your Bluetooth would assign to your GPS, as long as it is one at a time.

The Gpsgate is for Garmin GPS and CoPilot. I run them at different times separately. S&T 2008 lags in Gpsgate. I can run S&T 2008 through the laptop's Bluetooth software, but now there is a few second lag with the tracking arrow. When I stop for a few seconds the tracking arrow stops. This is normal or not for S&T? Garmin and CoPilot have no lagging.

Others have mentioned problems with S&T lagging but I haven't seen a solution. Some people have no problem with it. I haven't road tested it enough to comment.

If you have to use GPS Gate with a Garmin product, I assume you are speaking of nRoute.

yes nroute

BT33 is a 5Hz receiver. Streets & Trips would indeed exhibit big lag at 5Hz. Is there a utility software for the BT33 to lower the refresh rate from 5Hz down to 1Hz?
tcassidy
Good catch Marvin! I had forgotten that one. Hope it works.

Marvin you hit the nail on the head. I found the BT GPS G33 is the only one that has the lag with S&T 2008. I also found with out it works through laptops Bluetooth software NO LAG. So I will contact Franson and see if the Gpsgate can be modified to work it. By the way, CoPilot and Garmin nRoute work through the GpsGate no problems with the G33. Keep you posted.

CoPilot and nRoute work fine, because they are not limited to 4,800 baud rate as Streets & Trips.
co2x3
marvin just want to give you an up date the 5 hz issue is only using gpsgate other wise works fine with ss2008 on laptops bluetooth setting. waiting to here from fransons tech support on fix. thanks again.

I think i repeat myself, but

It is free and maybe does not suffer from the 5 hz problem???

I am running 1 GPS program at a time. i must run Gpsgate with Garmin nRoute. I prefer to use Franson Gpsgate for the other GPS programs I run when I switch from one to the other. no lag when i use either Bluetooth receivers through lap top Bluetooth program. Copilot Garmin nRoute work fine with Gpsgate its S&T2008 that lags too much when using the bt gps g33 only the bt-339 works fine while running through gpsgate ss2008. so the 6 million dollar question is WHAT PROGRAM OUT THERE ADJUSTS REFRESH RATE HZ FROM 5 TO 1?
tcassidy
You will have to contact the GPS manufacturer to see if they have a program to modify the GPS firmware. I did not see one on their site.

http://franson.com/gpsgate/purchase.asp?ref=app&v=2.6.0.340 not very easy getting answers from engineering dept. looks like their now working on a fix i hope. must go through their forum via email site. no phone support. keep you guys posted.
tcassidy
I meant Globaltop but who knows. Maybe GPSGate can fix it.

co2x3, 5Hz is too much data for Streets & Trips @ the baud rate of 4,800. That was the reason suspected the 5Hz setting was the cause of the problem you were experiencing with Streets & Trips. I'm surprised that you are not experiencing the issue when you turn off GPS Gate . I don't have a 5Hz GPS receiver at the moment, so I cannot double check this.

i perfer to use franson gpsgate for the other gps programs i run
I can understand that...

But it could have been interesting for us to know if xport is suffering from the same kind of lag problem using a 5hz gps and S&T. I am very curious myself
