Is it possible to "backconvert" .est files to previous versions of Streets & Trips? I use 2008 and my buddy uses 2005. He can't open files I created with 2008 in his 2005 version. Is this the way Microsoft intended it, or are we doing something wrong?
The only workaround that I could come up with was to use GPSBabel and convert from the est. file to csv by route of the mapconverter csv. You can then use the import data wizard to put the files into the Streets and Trips program. You will then have to change the pushpins to stops and manually arrange them from first to last then get directions.
If anyone else has a better idea I'd like to hear it.

Thank you, Big Dave, for responding to my post. I may try your workaround. It seems crazy to me that Billy Gates and company doesn't allow backconverting (at least for a few revisions). It's really annoying!
arlenj, welcome to the forums. Please, let us know if it does the trick for you. I think some people said the above mentioned tools didn't work well with the new 2009 version of Streets & Trips, yet. But you have v.2008, so hopefully it will work.
To my knowledge, gps babel tools are not working correctly with version after S&T 2007 (no 2008 and 2009 support).
Generally, from most of the software i have seen in my life, there are very few that can allow back reverting to older version of the software data files. Most of the time, it is very difficult because new software have new feature that were not there in the previous versions and that cannot be converted back without loosing these new features...
One workaround is to create the original copy in the older version, and import it in the new version. Keep the older copy as the master copy if possible and share it between users.

I have used gps babel successfully with my 2009 version of streets and trips. You just have to make sure and use the Mapopolis.com mapconverter csv [.txt].

I'm starting GPS Babel and loading the trip or waypoints into it from Streets and Trips. I then convert it to the Mapopolis.com mapconverter csv [.txt]. If you use any of the other csv files it won't work. I don't know why. After converting it to csv I can then use the import data wizard in Streets and Trips and load it in. You will then have to rearrange the stops into the order you want then click get directions and save the file.

Yes. I load it using the Microsoft streets and trips [pin/route reader] [.est] in GPS Babel.
