Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008 - Calibration?

Is there a way to calibrate the GPS (or edit a reg key) for my Pharos GPS-500? I am consistently to the "right" on the map of where I should be. Sometimes I'll be driving down a road and I'm not even shown as being on that road, my arrow icon is too far to the right of where I am on the map. Is there some value I can edit to make it more accurate?

Hi Rezolution, and welcome to the forums. How big is the error? How far off the road are you?

Talk about a tough question to answer, LoL.

Let me take a quick measurment of the map scale and I'll try to guestimate.

... or just post a screen shot.

... but don't do it now, if you are at home, LOL. Wait till you are on the road driving...

Ok, I'm too lazy to get a ruler and do the math but...

If you zoom all the way in to the closest view, well, see my little drawing below...

If the thing I made that resembles a street is the street and you're zoomed all the way in, sometimes my car (pointer) labeled x isn't even on the road. It's a bit to the right. I would like to edit a reg file or text file or whatever to change a value to make the x be inside the street I'm on on the map...

If that makes any sense

Kind of like a GPS fine tune (to match the map).

Could it be related to the gps position in your car you are using?

When i am driving in some crowded street with tall buildings, i can experiment these kind of problems with the same gps receiver...

But it is ok normally in other circonstance...

Honestly at first, i thought it was if the sensor is level or not. So i kept trying to move it around. Then I realized that had nothing to do with it (because I turned the unit upside down and sideways and it was off the same distance). Then I tried unplugging it and plugging it back (i thought maybe it had to be level at startup) in but that had no effect. It was doing this on an open highway. No buildings or trees in site. I can't really say it's off because maybe its how the person that recorded the road for teh map company measured it?

I guess I don't have a known GPS point to actually test it's accuracy!

It would be nice if there was a "fine tune" though, if for instance it's always 8 feet to the right.

Most mapping programs including S&T lock to the road you are travelling on so you don't see an error unless it is so large, the program can not determine the correct location.

The position of the GPS is only critical in that it should have a good view of the sky. If your GPS is mounted on the dash and you are still showing a high positional error, its possible the windsheild of your vehicle has a coating preventing a good signal. Try placing the GPS at a side window.

Hi Rez,
Are you following a route (aka using the driving guidance) or just showing your current position on the road? tcassidy is correct about the snapping the position to the road and this happens when you are following a route only.
