Hello all, from a new member. I've been lurking and searching your highly informative site trying to figure out if I've scr*wed up trying to fit a traveling computer/GPS system together. I just bought an Acer Aspire One net book with the six cell battery, 160 gig drive and Windows XP. I normally use Linux but figured having a Windows computer might be useful for programs that only come in Windows versions. Boy, does this little computer ever remind me why I switched to Linux in the first place. How does anyone put up with Microsoft!
Anyway, the Aspire is a great little netbook, and the plan is to use it as a movie viewer on the flight over to France and then use Autoroute 2007 to navigate around. I have a Holux M1000 Bluetooth GPS receiver that I had bought previously. Searching the web, and this forum, I found a couple of people had tried to use this combination without any luck. This was worrisome. So, thanks to this forum, I located the trial version of MS Streets and Trips 2009, bought a Bluetooth dongle, and everything works fine. The dongle is a Cirago that I bought from Tiger Direct.ca for $27, that comes with the Toshiba Bluetooth stack. I installed the drivers for the GPS and the Bluetooth drivers, had to manually select the GPS for the dongle's driver (dead easy) clicked on the [details] button, noted that the address was Comm 40, and when I had opened Streets and Trips I clicked on configure GPS, was given a choice of comm ports, one of which was number 40, clicked on it, clicked on start GPS and a couple of seconds later I was informed that I was at home in Etobicoke. So at least I know that my set-up works with S&T2009. I can't see why it shouldn't work with a new edition of Autoroute 2007.
Anyway, I thought I'd post this in case anyone else has a Holus M1000 and is wondering if it will work with the little Acer and S&T.
