:welcome:to the forum, Dtheman. Many people use Streets & Trips by Microsoft and/or Street Atlas by DeLorme, in conjunction with POIs downloaded from http://www.discoveryowners.com/cginfolinks.htm to do truck routing.

Marvin is right about the POIs from the Discovery Motorhome web site. I use them but there is one caveat: they are not regularly updated like commercial programs. Having said that, how often does a bridge clearance change?

There is a commercial program designed for larger vehicles (truckers). Co-Pilot has a version for trucks that takes into account truck routes. Go to http://www.dieselboss.com/Travrout/mapping.htm. That web site also has a smaller automotive-type GPS that's programmed for truckers.

If you're really into it, the site has rest stop listings, diesel prices, laptop mounts, other software, etc. I'm not endorsing the site but it's a place to start.

Before you purchase CoPilot Truck 11, I *HIGHLY* suggest you read this entire topic:

ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 11 has been released

I use CoPilot Truck 9 daily. Even though it's marketed for trucks, it *cannot* be relied upon 100% to keep you on legal roads. There's been a number of times it's told me to drive under a bridge that a truck simply can't go under, or to go on roads with a 10 ton limit. Always confirm your route before following what it suggests.

... and the PNDs I see at the Dieselboss.com link are based on the version 11 at the moment.

Malaki86 is right about complete reliance in the Co-Pilot program but that's true of any of the mapping programs. For instance, routes change and those changes may not be reported in a timely manner. And sometimes, yes, sometimes, the software makers get it wrong.

All in all, however, the programs are excellent, just not infallible.
