Any computer electronics store, real or online, will have them in various lengths. They are just a standard USB extension cable. Here's an example.

... just to be on the safe side, Karl, what is the model of your USB GPS receiver? There is likely a sticker, w/model number, on the back of it.

scour the 'Dollar' stores- they have them but don't know they do - now have 3 - 2 of which came with cheap (1GB - MP3 players -London Drugs ). even found one for $94 - it was 100ft long! - Mind you I must confess I paid $2 for one in a `Dollar`store.

Hi Gordon,

I don't think that's the sort of cable we're talking about. The ones that connect to MP3 players (and cameras and GPS units and some smartphones...) have a five-pin mini-B connector on one end to connect to the USB device and a standard USB connector on the other end to connect to the PC.

The cable we're talking about has the standard USB connector on one end to connect to the PC and the other end has the same connector that is on the PC, so you could connect another standard USB cable to it, thus extending the distance you can have the device from the PC.

As an example of use, one of my PCs is an older one that only has USB connections on the back panel. That's not helpful to me with the tower case tucked under the desk ... makes it kinda difficult to plug the camera in to upload pics. So I have a 5 ft. extension cable on that PC that plugs into the connector on the back panel and brings it out to the front of the PC. Then I plug my camera cable into that cable, just as if I was plugging into the connector on the back panel.

Ken - short of posting a photograph - are you talking about a USB cable with a male and female end ? i.e. an extension cord ? - thats what I'm referring to.

Yes, Gordon, that's what I'm talking about. What fooled me in your message is when you mentioned buying an MP3 player that came with one. I've never seen anything but a mini-B connector on MP3 players. The female end on a proper extension cable is nearly as big as most MP3 players!
