I have been using Streets and Trips 2005 on a large screen Toshiba laptop since it's release. It is nice having the 17"screen, along with the ability to work on my files and check email, but a pain to pack it around and keep it secured on stops. I am trying to decide wheter to update to S&T 2009 running on a netbook or purchase a new auto GPS, such as the navigon 5100Max. Either option is going to set me back about $300.00

Does the latest version of Streets & Trips have a lane assist view similar to what newer models of Navigon and Motorola GPS devices? If not does anyone know if there are plans for it in the next release?

If you are talking about lane view when turning on the highway (taking an exit), no the 2009 version of S&T does not support this feature...

Thanks -- Yes lane view gives you a view of the full road and shows you which lane you should be moving into in order to make your next exit. this is especially helpful if you are not familiar with the area and, for example, and the regular map shows you are going to be going right but you find one of those odd situations where you exit left and then do a clover leaf to head back in the right direction. I have ran into that situation more than once with my 2005 version of S&T. I was really hoping they had fixed that.

From units I have seen while riding with somebody else, the newer Navigon and Garmin auto GPS units do an excellent job of this -- right down to showing a view of those overhead lane signs before you get to them. This gives you plenty of time to make a lane change without getting boxed in and missing a turn.
