U-Blox GPS & Streets and Trips 2009 has numerous crashes
Obi-Wan Kenobi
After 3 weeks of trials and errors while traveling, the new u-blox gps receiver seems to be the cause of my crashes. When I run the older (2006) MS gps the program does not crash. Change over to the u-blox with same trip planned on screen to the u-blox and S&T will eventually crash. Sometimes immediately, sometimes it takes a few hours. I have done this test several times over past 2 days to be convinced it has to be in the u-blox gps. I have tried the u-blox with short (supplied) and long usb extension cords.
For now, my problems are over as long as I keep using the older gps.
Any suggestions or testing that might help would certainly be appreciated.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, the only thing that comes to my mind now is to check for the newest software driver for the USB GPS. The manufacturer's website is linked from: http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/1105-review-u-blox-5-usb-gps-stick-new-gps-locator-microsoft...reets-trips#post7391 - They have a download section there with drivers for various operating systems.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then keep using your old unit, and periodically check for driver update for the new one.

It also is possible that your new USB GPS stick may be faulty.

If it was me, I would ensure I have update drivers and if that didn't correct it I would immediately be after Microsoft to help fix the problem.

It's a warranty issue.

I downloaded an update for the GPS. It took about 20 minute before it crashed the S&T program. I will continue to use the older GPS with the 2009 version. This at least keeps me going for now. Hopefully this can get figured out. I seem to be the only one it is happening too. Thanks for your input, it is appreciated. I will let you know if/when I get it working properly.

You may also follow Ken's suggestion of contacting Microsoft, as this may be still under your (one year?) warranty.

I have contacted MS support and after getting into the 2nd level of tech support and numerous test over past 3 weeks, they have determined it appears to be the fault of the U-Blox GPS device. I got a sense that there are a few more of these out there that are getting replaced and they are not sure exactly what the problem is yet.
I have accepted to get a new gps from them. Until then I still have my older gps that works just fine with the 2009 version for my travles which will be in newfoundland for next 4 weeks.
I must say the tech support teams were excellent in their helping and knowledge.
thanks for everyone help and keep up the great work, it is appreciated.
All The Best.....
