People have mentioned that there is a way to install the newer version of S&T and then copy the map files (into the map files directory of the older version, I think ... you should be able to search for the discussions) so that they can be used in the older version. The only version of S&T I've ever used is 2008 so I don't know if that trick would work to get new maps back to the last version of S&T that supported Pocket Streets.

You can try this out for free if you want to download the trial copy of S&T 2009. You can leave your older version installed then try installing 2009 and copying the maps over and see if the older version will use them.

I will be very happy if someone with experience will correct me if I've misunderstood. Preferably before Pegleg wastes a bunch of time on this.

Hi Pegleg, and welcome to Laptop GPS World. As Ken says, it used to be possible to copy the content of the data folder from a newer Streets & Trips version to the data folder of an older version. I haven't had the need myself to try this with the new S&T 2009, as for my needs the 2009 version is the best, but I heard of some people who did do it. I remember one user saying that the 2009 version needs to be activated for this to work. I haven't tested this, but it does make sense, because otherwise anyone could just use the data from the free downloaded trial version in their old software indefinitely.

Streets and Trips 2009 can no longer export maps to Pocket Streets. I think S&T 2008 was the last version capable of it.
