Importing multiple pushpin sets
crazyst
This is a long shot but I'll ask anyway.

Realizing that the import feature is very limited....

Has anyone figured out a way to import multiple pushpin sets.

What I mean is I want to import a bunch of pushpins but I have them broken up into groups. I want each group to be it's own pushpin set. Right now if you import they all go into one group. Is there a way to do something in the file to tell Microsoft Streets and Trips to put them into different groups?

If there's not a way to do that is there a way to break apart a pushpin set into multiple sets based on some criteria?

Thanks,
Curt

I'm new to Streets and Trips and this forum but what I've done is create an excel file with a separate sheet for each of my 'groups' - Restaurants, Rest Areas, Contacts, and Hotels. I then imported each sheet and individual 'sets' were created for each sheet. The set names were based on the excel file name which in my case was S&T, S&T 2, S&T 3, S&T 4. You can then select one of the sets and then select properties and change the name of the set. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for - it works fine for my application.

Hi Ray,

I didn't realize that S&T would prompt you for which sheet you wanted to import from an excel spreadsheet so that does make it easier but it still isn't quite what I need. Thanks for the tip though. That is some help.

Actually when I try to import from a sheet it says no matching records found. I have the name in one column and the lat/lon in the next two columns. I tell it to skip the other columns. But when I import it I get no matching records. Any clue?

Thanks,
Curt

Well your post didn't mention anything regarding No Matching records found but here's how I have my Rest Areas defined which uses Lat/Long and works
for me...

Name Latitude Longitude Comments
Ogallala WELCOME CENTER/REST AREA EB I-80 MM 124
41.1072 -101.75681
Sterling Rest Area
40.62044 -103.17977 Full Service, Tourist Information

Yeah it was my screw up. I had the coordinates in the wrong format.

I sure wish it would just import each sheet as it's own set of pushpins in one click. Or allow you to select the sheets you want and allow you type in the names you want each pushpin set to be. Or at least import the pushpins with the sheet name.

Well I guess we'll add it all to the Wish List

Thanks,
Curt
