What's happening with Microsoft AutoRoute?

Hi All,

Big fan of Autoroute (European version of Streets & Trips) since the very early days back in late 80s. Recently heard that Autoroute 2007 is the end of the line. Anyone know what's happening with it, could they rebranding the euro version Streets & Trips?

Yes it is gone for the bad or the good

I guess there were not enough product buyers to justify the development anymore...

...still I keep hoping a miracle will happen and AutoRoute will be resurrected somehow, perhaps in the form of Streets & Trips w/ both, NA and EU maps.

MapPoint 2009 EU still does exist, so Microsoft still does pay to Navteq for EU map data, so why not use the maps also for a consumer mapping software.

There was a survey done for MapPoint users recently, and one of the questions was if people would be interested in a MP w/ NA & EU map data in one product. So perhaps if MSFT is thinking in this direction there may be a small chance of us one day indeed seeing even S&T with NA & EU maps. (I'm just dreaming... )

Let's keep hoping

I've always wonder why Microsoft had separated the two. I always thought it would be better to integrate both maps (NA & EU) to one product. And to include more countries like Australia, New Zealand, etc. They include these on their online mapping, why not offline product?

I guess because of the rights to pay for the maps, including more maps would probably mean a more expensive product for everybody. I won't ever use maps myself outside of America, so if i have to pay the product 30% more to get these unused maps, i prefer not to pay for something i won't use. But if it changes almost nothing to the final product price (which i doubt it is the case here), it would probably be a marketing advantage for some...

Mappoint is a more expensive product and could probably justify better the price for these other maps...
