Trouble using JRT-29 Bluetooth GPS receiver with Microsoft Streets and Trips
poonpower
Hello guys, first post, but I've been searching and browsing for quite a while.

I've had this Bluetooth GPS receiver when I got my Nokia N73, and it works very well with it. However, when I try to connect the GPS to Microsoft Streets and Trips, it disconnects and doesn't work. If i don't start S&T, it connects to the S10 perfectly fine for however long I leave it on for, but once i start Streets & Trips, it disconnects.

I am currently using Bluesoleil, before I was using the Windows Bluetooth equivalent. Both methods do not work.

What could be wrong, do I need a new receiver?

Get rid of that awful Bluesoleil stack if your computer will work with the Windows Bluetooth stack. It is so much simpler for this type of operation.

Pair the GPS device and Windows will tell you which COM port it has assigned. Point S&T to that COM port. I can give you step by step pictures if you need them.

I've done that, it assigned COM5. But S&T does not see the gps receiver. I click scan in S&T, then it scans for a long time, and then the gps disconnects from the computer.
I used to think it was the bluetooth chip in the S10, but then it connects fine with my phone, as well as other phones.

I couldn't find much information on the JRT-29 except some stuff from 2007mostly on the PDA and phone sites. There is one mention of it working on a PC but with a generic testing program. Maybe it doesn't work with S&T. Do you have any other program to test it with?

no i dont, unfortunately. are there downloadable programs to test a gps receiver? I would have kept using my phone, but the map is way out of date.

I wish there was a buy and sell section here, so I can source a used receiver below costs.

This thread mentions a couple in the second post. You might try Xport to interface the device with S&T or one of the others to see what it is doing.

I tried using Xport and GPSdiag. The Xport can find the gps on COM8, since bluesoleil assigned COM8, while the windows one doesnt even work no more, its pretty unreliable.
However, S&T doesnt even see COM8 when i clicked scan, and GPSdiag is unable to open the communications port when i click COM8.

You can't have the 2 Bluetooth stacks loaded at the same time. You would definitely have problems. To make the Windows one work, you would have to fully uninstall Bluesoleil and restart your computer. Windows should then discover the BT radio and load the appropriate drivers. If Windows can find it, it will work fine. If Windows can't find the BT radio, it is not on their list and you will need Bluesoleil. But not both!!

ohhhhhhhhhhh, i see now. I didnt not know enough to get this working, haha.
I now have bluesoleil, Xport, and S&T working perfectly. bluesoleil assigned COM8, then I clicked COM1 in Xport and enabled it. now it works for some reason.
Is there a reason why S&T didnt like COM8??

One of the threads I read elsewhere says this GPS defaults to 9600 bps. S&T will only support 4800 bps so xport is doing the speed translation. Usually Bluetooth GPS devices can do to 4800 but maybe this one can't.
