Voice commands in Streets & Trips not working unless I press the space bar
Duramax1
I previously had MS Streets and Trips 2008. That version automatically issued a voice command that a turn was to be made in within the next x part of a mile (I have forgotten what the exact distance was).

My Streets and Trips 2009 never issues a voice command with respect to the distance to the next turn unless I manually press the space bar.

Have I somehow not programed it to automatically issue turn commands?

Yes the 2009 version issue this information too. Are you sure that the audio voice is not muted (press F7 key while navigating fullscreen to mute/unmute)?
Duramax1
Thank you for your suggestion, however it does not solve my problem.

Clicking on F7 does not turn on or turn off the sound on my laptop when using Streets and Trips.

Clicking on F10 does turn the sound on and off when using Streets and Trips or any other program.

Perhaps because F7 is not the operative keystroke for Streets and Trips that might explain why Streets and Trips will never provide me with a voice direction unless I hit the space bar.

Curious though, because I never had that problem with my previous version of Streets and Trips.

Hi Duramax1, and welcome to Laptop GPS World. I'm quite sure MisterMoonlight is correct. You must have accidentally pressed the F7-key, and since then Streets & Trips has been muted. Even while muted, the program will let you hear the voice directions prompts if you press the space bar, however, the program will not automatically provide voice directions prompts till you un-mute it by pressing F7-key again.

There are several issues here:
  • Users have no way of knowing, just by looking at the screen, that the program has been muted
  • Restart of the program will not un-mute it
  • F7-key will only un-mute the program while you are actually navigating with GPS on.

Thank you for your suggestion. Undoubtedly you are right and I will use the F7-key to unmute the program the next time I am using the program with the GPS on.
Duramax1
Just to let you know, it did work. Thank you.

Now on to my next question which I shall post with the caption Re: Find Nearby Places while underway and using the GPS navigation system
