Does Garmin Mobile PC work in South America?
flydogfly
Hey hi I would like to know if the Garmin Mobile PC with GPS20X works in Brazil, and if it does is there a monthly fee?
tcassidy
GPS has no monthly fee. Mobile PC does not come with maps for South America but the 20x will work anywhere in the world.

Garmin does not offer maps for South America so you would have to search the internet for maps of your area in Garmin format.

flydogfly, welcome to Laptop GPS World. We have members from South America here. Let us know which countries you are interested in, and perhaps people can let you know where to get Garmin Mobile PC compatible maps from.

Having I never owned Garmin GPS I realy dont know what is the format of the maps

Marvin just means that you would use a search engine, like Google or Bing or Yahoo or ASK, and use a search term like "Garmin compatible maps for Brazil" or something like that.

None of the maps from the various manufacturers will work in any other manufacturers' programs. Garmin maps won't work in Microsoft Streets&Trips. Microsoft's maps won't work in DeLorme's Street Atlas. And so on. So you need to make sure you can find maps that will work with the GPS navigation program you select.

Or you can try to find someone who makes maps for the area you are interested in and then use their GPS navigation program.

Another search term you could use might be "GPS maps for Brazil" and see what you can find from anyone, not just Garmin.

I own GMPc with gps 20x version and I`m running detailed , free and routable maps for Brasil.
The link 2 Proyecto TrackSource download page is :

Downloads

You must get the TRC version 6.0.3 (Tracksorce Roteavel Complemetar)
Its the full coverage of Brasil.
If you need Sao Paulo (with full detail), you also have to download , under "Mapas em teste" /TRU - Tracksource Roteavel Urbano 6.03/ the file SP-TRU

They are executable files thats install cartography to Mapsource ; and you transfer to GMPc the zones you need.

This link is to the proyect Forum... you only need to log and then able to interact with brazilian gpseer`s...

Portal GPS - Pgina Principal

Warning:On Brasil there`s law prohibition of using any notebook (also dvd`s movies player) on the car cokpit.Only gps that shows cartography and give audio instructions ( as Nüvies or similars)
