How to transfer ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 9 from onboard computer to laptop?

I need some help, purchased an 2006 Allegro bus in May. ALK CoPilot Laptop 9 was installed on the onboard computer. I would like to burn a copy from the onboard to install to my laptop making it easier to learn the program. Is there a method to do this? The instructions would also be easier to read/learn from my laptop than in the MH. Thanx for help.

Welcome to Laptop GPS World.

My first guess is that it may not be possible to achieve it technically, and it may even possibly be against the licensing agreement of ALK CoPilot product. It may be much simpler to just buy ALK CoPilot Laptop 9, if you can find a source that still carries the old version. Version 9 is a few years old now, so the price will likely be quite low.

I'm just curious, what on board computer do you have in the motorhome? Is it something that was originally built into the dashboard, or is it something you built? Is it a Windows PC?

Marvin, The MH is Tiffin and they offer a built in, in the dash computer. It has CoPilot installed w/antenna, also is rear camera monitor. Pretty neat. Thanx for responding. I have been using Delorme Street Atlas for some time and have 09. Probably just stick with that.

You might try calling ALK - tell them that you lost or damaged your installation discs.

Take note, however, that CoPilot requires activation and can only run on one computer at a time. Whatever you do, don't upgrade to version 11. It's utter garbage (as I've said many times before). I spoke to ALK a couple weeks ago and they said that the new version will be out sometime between October and April or May of next year.

KapnKluck, thanks for the links to the pictures. That's very impressive. The size of the monitor seems quite large, and bright, too.

malaki86, thanks for the ETA on ALK CoPilot Laptop 12. I'm looking forward to finding out how ALK improves it over the current version 11.

Had to install an earlier version (7) for now. Dash unit is XP and my laptop is Vista and it wants something I haven't figured out yet. I am going to try again when I get some time. (and can find some 8th grader to show me how)

I have not had an issue with installing SA2009 on an XP computer. What SP level is XP at in the motorhome and how do you update it?

The onboard asked for some file I wasn't familar with, I ran out of time and have not been back at. I am going to try again but is very hot now and I may wait a few days.

Guys, I went back out and tried to load Topo USA on my onboard. What is Microsoft dot net 2.0? Seems it needs that to finish loading Topo 8. Street atlas is on there now. Should I remove it first? I'm not the most savvy wiz on these things. I can get around on a program OK but do sometimes have trouble getting them loaded. Topo is xp compatable and xp is running on the onboard. Any help?

Your computer probably needs an update or two to XP. Several of the later ones update the NET framework. It is possible Topo 8 needs a newer version than SA. You might want to ask the designers how to update XP on the motorhome computer. Can it be connected to the internet?
