I have googled and cannot find a solution to my Streets & Trips problem.

I have a Dell Studio 1555 with Vista Home Premium.

I have Norton 360 version 3 and have disabled when installing.

I install the program (as admin) and its copies/installs. It then asks to reboot to complete the installation and I thought it completed the install.

When I try to start the program, it goes through a "Please wait while Windows installs." window, and then a "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Streets & Trips 2008". It will eventually finish and let the program start. If I don't have my DVD inserted, it asks for it. I have to go through this every time I start the program.

It should be noted I have this program successfully installed on all my other machines, but they are all Windows XP.

Has anyone encountered this issues, and if so, what did you do to resolve?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!

If the installation DVD is not in the DVD drive when attempting to start Microsoft Streets & Trips, what does the error read exactly?

When I run the program w/o the DVD in the Drive, I receive:

"the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available Insert "Microsoft Streets Trips 2008' disk" and click OK"

Just a guess but sounds like a Dell unique issue. Some antivirus makes
versions just for Dell, might try Dell or a Dell thread. Should be pretty basic fix.

I have a similar issue. I just upgraded to a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop and installed Streets & Trips 2008. I may have made a mistake and installed it to run from the disk although I intended to install it so that it would run without the disk. I got the problems described above. Then I uninstalled it and was careful to install it with the option to run from the hard drive. It still wants the DVD and it still tries to configure the software forever. If I cancel the configuration process and install the DVD then I can get it to run. What is going on?

Are you sure S&T 2008 is compatible with Vista? Are you running Vista 32 bit or 64 bit? Are you current with Vista Windows Updates? Is the path to your C: drive?

In "Add/Remove Programs" is it showing you have S&T 2008 at about 1.8 Gigs +/- ?

Yes it is compatible with Vista. It ran fine on my former Dell laptop with Vista. I am running 32 bit Vista Home Premium as before. The updates are current and the program is loaded on C: It shows S&T at 1.53 GB in Add/Remove Programs.

I'm at work at the moment, thus can't look at S&T. I put Streets & Trips 2009 on my wife's Dell mini 9 netbook (XP Home, SP3) and I believe I downloaded the trial on My HP dv6000 also running Vista Home Premium. I had no problems with either install. This was 2009 though.

It seems to me you may have the whole program (or at least most) on your drive. May have a bad or broken path accessing it.

The only thing I can think of is looking a the files on the DVD (don't install) and compare to the files on your C: drive.

This following suggestion may prove to be a pain for you, however, you could try downloading the free 60 day trial of S&T 2009 and see if "it" installs ok.

What do you mean by "forever"? How much ram do you have?
