WWAN card for GSM/GPS
I just go myself a shiny new Sierra Wireless MC8775 WWAN card. This module doesn't support GPS (i.e. it doesn't have a GPS module)

Before I run off to buy a Bluetooth GPS receiver, I was wondering if there was a way to plot my location using GSM data from the card.

I've googled this for the last hour or so using a number of different search terms to no avail.

Is there a way to plot location using the GSM data from this device? I'm thinking of cell tower triangulation (which I use quite happily on a number of mobile phones)

Thanks in advance all!

Some smartphones can do that, I think. I have never seen such a program for laptops.

... and just to add, even the best consumer USB GPS receivers cost only about US$40, and they offer better accuracy than what you can expect to get from cell tower triangulation.

nrg13, welcome to Laptop GPS World.
The Sprint mobile broadband card I used had GPS capabilities, but it was *much* slower than a standard GPS unit. Also, it slowed down the bandwidth on the connection.

Best bet would be to buy a standalone unit, such as a BU-353.
