Automatic Record Track (GPS route) for iGuidance

First off, I'd like to say after using iGuidance for about 1 min, I immediately fell in love with the program. I've used a lot of other GPS software for my UMPC and none of them are are user friendly and simple as this one (simple is better while driving).

Anyways, there is a feature that I would like to see in the iGuidance if it has not already been done. That is automatic "record track" (Or something that logs the GPS routes). The reason I would like to see this feature is because I found it very useful to monitor the car's routes, the speed, and time not only for myself, but when other people use my car (say a teenage driver who drives 90mphs on the freeway). It is also a good feature to have when you are in a car accident; you can provide accurate information to insurance AND have proof (hopefully to your benefit ).

If there is some registry hack or settings I can change to allow such feature, please help me out. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to wait for this feature to come out...which I'm hoping will be soon!.

Currently, my UMPC is set to hibernate every time my car turns off. So iGuidance never exits (theoretically), but I would like the program to save a GPS log every time the computer hibernates, and as it starts up again when the car starts, I would like it to start a new gps log (based on time & date - which actually iGuidance does already when you select "Record Track" in the File menu).

I wonder if someone knows of some free (or inexpensive) software program which could record all this info for you.

Wouldn't that mean you would need to use GPS gate (allows multiple programs to use the GPS device - but I think it's only for PPCs) or something since GPS device is needed. Since it's already being used for iGuidance, the GPS device is locked and cannot be used by other programs trying to access it (assuming that this program is not a plug in for iGuidance)?

I'll do some searching for something like this. It never dawned on me that someone may have made a program that does this .

But it's not the same GPSgate I was talking about. This is the one I was thinking about (the one where you can "split" your GPS device to be used with several different programs)

I don't think it will work for me though because it's not automatic.

On a separate note, http://www.mp3car.com/wiki/index.php/GPS_Splitter has a good article about GPS spliter called Xport (FREE!!!). With that, you can create virtual COM ports so multiple porgrams can share one GPS device. I'm ging to test it out later this week.

So with that said, I guess I just have to keep searching for any automatic GPS logger that will take car of my problem.

Not sure what you mean by "...it's not automatic..." It can start when ever your Windows starts . Franson GPS Gate splits GPS signal to as many of your GPS programs as you need. It can actually do many other functions as well. It is very reliable.

Well I am not sure if any of you know but I am using this cool GPS Splitter thanks to Curiosity over at mp3car.com. I have been using its built in GPS Data logger for a while now. Basically set you GPS COM port to the correct port and split it. Next just set up the path log where you want the application to save the gps coordinates and make sure the box is checked. I actually compared the applications logs to the iguidance logs and they both contain the same exact info. ALSO you can play the log in iguidance. I think this is exactly what you are looking for. O an the app also automatically starts with windows (only when the com port is split). Even if iguidance isn't running you coordinates will be logged!

So it still automatically starts when coming back from hibernation? I wasn't sure about that. I knew of GPS Gate like 2 years ago and I didn't realize they changed their software completely (back then it was just a GPS splitter) so i don't know how it works anymore. I'll try this out too, but it's not free. Cheekz185 said that XPort can log too and be played back in iGuidance (which I didn't know either), and since this one is free I'm hoping this one works out .

ggtm85, yes, if a free solution can do it, there is no need to spend money .

Cheekz185, yes, Sygic Drive with USA / Canada maps is coming. As of this morning it's still in Beta, though. I just received an updated version of the software this morning.

Marvin would you be able to post screen shots? Do you have the demo with US maps?

Yes, I do, but my problem is that I'm in Canada, not in the US. But the final product will include Canada, too. Some screenshots were posted in: SYGIC - new GPS navigation software to launch in USA / Canada January 2008 . There are more pictures at Sygic website.

Very nice...would you happen to know how soon they will release the us maps? I know it states January 2008... I am thinking end of january?
