I have been having trouble with the GPS indicator and the GPS trace disappear from the screen while using the Full-Screen mode with the Driving Guidance Pane of my Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007 on my Viliv S5 UMPC towards the end of a long day of navigating. S&T continues to navigate, complete with turn instructions and repositioning of the map to reflect the current position. Everything is OK except that the little red arrow (or red dot, if stationary) in the red circle, nor the blue trace line trailing the indicator are not visible. If I save the file when I get to my destination, the GPS trace is saved too along with everything else. So it seems to be just a matter of display. Has anyone else had this problem?

My theory is that some temporary file is being created that is being read to display these features and that file maxxes out so that this display becomes inoperative. I have tried putting the UMPC on standby for a little while but that has not helped. I suppose I could stop navigating, save the file, turn off S&T, reboot the the UMPC, restart S&T, and re-commence navigating but that would be, of course, extremely inconvenient. Simply saving the current file does not help. Therefore, I wonder if there is such a temp file per above that I could simply purge and carry on with a fresh file.

Any ideas?

A lot has been fixed since version 2007. Have you tested this issue in S&T 2009? Or better yet, wait a bit till Microsoft launches Streets and Trips 2010.

Ok, this glitch was driving me nuts with S&T 2008 on my recent Amtrak trip. I had intermittently traced west coast to east coast and continued the same file for the return trip. The longer the trace got, the more rapid the refreshes got until finally it was unusable. It wasn't until late in the trip I discovered by simply starting a new file everything was ok.

But I'm a bit miffed, I wanted to trace as much of my trip as I could in one file. Maybe next year I'll upgrade to 2010.

I, too had this problem with S&T 2007. I just did what the OP said in the second paragraph. Just saved trip, stopped navigation, closed and reopened S&T, reopened the file, began navigating with trail. What a pain, but it only happened on a long day of trail making. Mine did it in the normal screen view, showing GPS pane. Same bug.

I was using a Deluo GPS receiver through a port replicator to make it work with S&T.

I bought S&T 2008 with the S&T antenna bundle, and have not done anything in terms of long trips since I installed it, so I don't know if anything was fixed. My guess is things will be different using their receiver
