Which PC GPS software with posted speed limit & warning signs?
tvan1212
I am wondering which software uses the posted speed limit and posted warning signs? I was looking at Garmin Mobile PC, but I don't know if the feature is in GMPC. I'm very open to other softwares as well.

Garmin's Mobile PC can have speed alerts set on. If this alert is on and if the road you are travelling has a speed limit in the map database and if your speed exceeds the limit by, I think, about 10% you will get an alert.

I'm pretty sure there is nothing about warning signs available in Mobile PC or any of the other laptop nav programs I've looked at. What sorts of warning signs are you thinking of?

EDIT: Oops, I think I misunderstood that setting. It looks like you have to have some Garmin safety camera POIs loaded and/or custom speed camera POIs loaded. So it would work like this: IF you are in proximity to a speed camera AND if the map database has a speed limit in the database for the road you're travelling AND if you are exceeding that speed, you'll get an alert.

Won't do anything if there are no speed cameras in proximity.

Oh hah nothing really about the warning signs i was just curious thats all, I thought that there will be a display of the posted speed limit on the screen? That what i thought. I didn't know that it will alert you if your speeding. I would just like to see what the speed limit is at a given road because some places that I pass by changes speeds alot and sometimes there's no signs for a lil bit further down.

I think I edited my post while you were replying. Please take another look at it for the information I added. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused by my own confusion. ...

Thanks very much Ken! I read a post on here which someone loaded their own TTS(TEXT TO SPEECH) voice on the GMPC. It was the Heather22 and i bought the voice and dont know how to add it to GMPC. Thanks

In Windows XP the voice files go in a folder under the GarminMobilePC folder. On my XP system using the default Mobile PC installation it's here:

"C:\Program Files\Garmin\GarminMobilePC\Voice"

You just place the Heather22.vpm file in the Voice folder and it should appear in Mobile PC as a voice selection.

I can't remember whether it goes in the same place in Vista/Windows 7 and I don't have time right now to fire up my Vista laptop. Have to get ready to head out to a 90th birthday brunch (not mine!!).

Hey Ken if you have any spare time. I installed the voice but there's no .vpm file in the acapela folder in c:Programs. there's only a .vco ... I don't know where else to look for the .vpm b/c i tried to do a search. Maybe i'm doing something wrong? I have XP SP3

Garmin uses .vpm files for the voices in Mobile PC. All the ones I've seen were free, even the ones you can download from Garmin's web site (the Garmin Garage). I don't know anything about .vco files or what an acapela is.

When I said to place the heather22.vpm file in the right place I was just assuming your heather22 file was a Mobile PC-compatible file. Sorry about that.

I am looking for the same thing. Any guess who might have speed limits on a PC besides Garmin?
