Streets and Trips 2010 questions
TheSiege
  1. Is there a way to have all pushpin loads when the program loads? I tried save current settings and such but have figured it out
  2. Is there a way to click on the map and have it navigate to the location from wherever I am? I don't want to setup anything, just click and "Navigate to location"
  3. Is there a way to have the map center on my location? Like if I move from where I am and I want the map to just go back to where my GPS is?
  4. Is there a way to remove Icons from the toolbar? I dont need "send to mobile" and others like that
  5. And finally, for now, How to I change the top down view? Like a 45 degree view or something else, anything else? I know the terrain view and such, I just tire of the top down.
  6. Is there a way to clear the GPS trail?

Hi TheSiege,

Welcome to Laptop GPS World.

1. When you close Streets & Trips (after you have added pushpins), the programs will prompt you to save your map. Save it. Then, when ever you need the map with the pushpins, open the saved file. Each time you add more pushpins, save the file.

2. Right-click a location on the map, and then from the menu that opens select Route => Add as Start.

3. Open GPS pane (Ctrl+A), and select the options you like (such as Keep position centered)

4. No, but it would be a nice feature to be able to remove individual buttons from toolbars. The current version of Streets & Trips 2010 allows you to: A. remove individual tool bars (View => Toolbars), and B. make buttons smaller (View => Toolbars => Large Buttons)

5. Select Navigation view in GPS pane (Ctrl+A)

6. It was possible to delete GPS trails in versions S&T 2005 to 2009. I don't know how to do that in S&T 2010 (other than open a new map). There may be a way to do it, but I just don't know. I haven't played with the feature enough.)

Thank you,

OK, the only follow up is number 3. I'm not referring to when I am navigating, but just looking around the maps and I want to go back to my current location.

There are several ways to do that. One way to achieve that would be to disable "Keep position centered" in GPS pane (Ctrl+A) to browse map, and then to enable it again to center the map on your GPS location.

I agree that being able to customize the toolbars would be useful. In the meantime, I have dragged the large icon toolbars into the S&T client area so that they become tiny windows. Once there they can be reshaped so that they are not long thin things. Move them around by dragging their title bars.

What? They cover up your map? Learn to show and hide them by keyboard key sequence alt-v, t, a / s / d.

I'd still like to customize though.

Great tips, Bill, and welcome to the forums!

It depends of what you are doing.

1- If you are not navigating at the time you are playing with the map, you can use the alt-left or alt-right arrow trick to go back and forth between screen view similar as when looking a browser page.

2- If you are navigating at the time you are playing with the map, the gps location will return back on screen as expected while moving after a while, as configured in the navigation pane (keep gps position centered or not, ect if arrange map view option is selected). One way to easily see a different map position while navigating and that s&t is controlling the map view (as configured from navigation pane) is to use S&T Keys 2010 free add-on with S&T like this:

Tips: when doing gps navigation in fullscreen mode, you may need to see a better overview of your trip while still seeing your current gps location. By pressing the "A" hotkey, this will force S&T to release control of the map while navigating. You may then use the "PgUp" and "PgDn" hotkeys to zoomout/zoomin the trip, and also the cursors keys to move a little around your current position (don't forget to zoomout first before using the cursor keys or you may loose completly the GPS icon location on the map). When completed, you can push "A" hotkey to return map control to S&T. As soon as the gps icon position is refreshed on screen, the map will reajust to locate the gps position on screen where it should be according to the other choosen S&T modes.

It should be noted that this trick can also be used when not in fullscreen navigation, but you would have to push the F4 menu key or button first before pressing the A hotkey...

I just got Streets & Trips after a 2 year lapse of using portable units, and before that Delorme. I have found that using the Dynamic setting keeps as much upcoming road in front of you. Meaning your location is at the bottom of the screen instead of center. I can see more upcoming roads that way.

Delorme had (maybe still has) when the GPS was active, on the route planning window, use current GPS location. You chose that when selecting a starting point. So far I have just had to click on the GPS arrow on the screen.

Let me know if you find out any more.
