Add 'Via Points'

With the new Microsoft Streets and Trips 2010 feature in the Guidance in mode of showing the distance to your next stop, I wish they'd add true Via points that don't count as stops, but only as a way of getting your route laid out exactly as you need it.

I love knowing how far it is until my next stop, but a particular exit ramp off the interstate or an intersection to get me there correctly - well, I don't care how far it is to that.

I have found that by using the avoid area feature, you can force it to route the way you want to go without having all the extra waypoints.

Avoid's would be fine if I could avoid individual roads. With a truck, there's a number of times you don't have to avoid an area, but just a single road. There'd be literally thousands of avoid areas on the map.

I do a lot of RV hauling and using "avoids" is way more tedious than just clicking on the route you know is good to make it a "via" for re-calculation purposes. I've had to box in or out a lot of stuff to get what I want with avoids.

Delorme Street Atlas does Via's just fine. It does not treat them the same as stops either. With their Via's, it's just a click to get what you want, or maybe even 2 or 3 if the auto-route doesn't get it right - but still better than using avoids.

And if they implement this really good, they could make the Via point be a selectable "include on route" or "avoid on route". Now that would be a complete solution!

Fantastic idea. Now if we could just get MS to actually read some of these posts ideas and add them that would be really Kool.
