We have ringtones ... why not "Nav Voices?"

Some of these programs have a voice (or two or three) that will talk you through the turns, but I find them to be BORING!

Something really FUN to add would be an entire set of alternate voices that you could pull up to help alleviate the boredom on a long trip.

Celebrity voices come to mind, but I was thinking oif something more fun.

Say you had a choice between:

1. English Butler
2. Mother-in-Law
3. New York Cab Driver
4. Southern Farm Hand

So you're driving along, and you miss a turn. Depending on the voice you have selectred you might get ...

1 . English Butler: "Pardon me for interrupting Sir, but it appears as if you have missed your turn. Shall I calculate an alternate route, or would you prefer to stay the course and rely on your instincts?"

2. Mother-in-Law: "Oh, GREAT! There goes our turn! I suppose you knew that, right Mr. 'I don't need directions!"? Are you finished goofing around now? Hey, the speed limit is 55 here. I'm sure you're speeding. Pull over and let me drive!"

3. New York Cab Driver: "Aw,GEEZ! What are ya doin'?! I toldja to toin right back dere! Now I gotta re-do the whole thing. Just keep going and don't do nuthin' 'till I tell you to, okay wise guy? My grandmother woulda' made that turn!"

4. Southern Farm Hand: (slow drawl) "Um ... I know y'all think yur goin' in the right di-rection, but near as I kin figger, you was supposed to turn right back yonder. There's another way to git there, but yur gonna want to slow down a bit 'till I recall all the parts ..."

Now wouldn't that be fun?

Some folks with talent could make a small fortune re-recording the standard voice directions that come with the software. John Wayne, Elvis "Uh, hey uh .. you're turn's a-commin' up on the right .. uh huh huh ...", Joan Rivers,Johnny Carson, Gilbert Godfrey "TUUUUURRRNNNN HEEEERRREEEE!!" ... ... well, maybe not him.

I like it! So when will you have these ready?

bikerjoe, that's an excellent idea! Let me know when you are done recoding the voices, I'll set up an FTP account for you so you can easily upload them here to the site.

Garmin has already been there and done that. Here's just one example of the many that are available:

Nav-Voices.Co.Uk- Dedicated to providing custom TomTom, Garmin and Navman SatNav voices.Garmin Voices

There's also a utility available that lets you edit and change any existing voices you have.

I currently have Jill Cartman, Stewie, the Governator, and Sedara voices for my Mobile PC.

Yeah, but I bet bikerjoe has most likely in mind a replacement for Microsoft Anna voice in his favorite Microsoft Streets and Trips.
