Limiting full-screen function of Streets & Trips for split-screen view
t1d
I was able to get the LCD back up and I worked with the layering issues.

I discovered that I was able to get Compass to be on top with S&T in full page nav mode. The problem was that I did not have the GPS running a route, i.e. operator error... ummm... duhhh... My apologies.

This is a good suggestion for accomplishing my purposes. Thank you. However, I sure would like to be able to do it in split-screen. With this technique, you end up covering up either the writtten directions at the bottom or the top drop-down bar.

I also built the narrow band display for Compass. It looks pretty good. If someone would tell me how to capture the screen shot, I would be glad to post it here.

One minor problem I discovered is that the assigned data display area in Compass seems to be wider than the background color. This creates an extra band of grey below the background band color. Does anybody know how to contact the author of Compass? I didn't see any contact info at the website.

After I get the final kinks worked out, I would be glad to provide copies of the background by e-mail to those having interest. That would save them a bit of effort.

Okay, here is my first attempt at uploading a screen shot... This is the look I am going for in a split-screen mode...

You need a different colour for the alphanumerics. They look blurry.

Hi, Terry,

Thanks for your suggestion about the text color... The text is very visible on my laptop... And, the background color and text color are intentional... They are shades of red... Red does not cause temporary "blindness" at night.

Good point! I was wondering if that was your reason for using the same colours.

Thanks for that tip about red. I didn't know that.

Re: Red at night, tis true... Ever notice "running red" at night in action movies? Think of the pilot house of naval ships in night scenes... Nicer table lamps for navigation tables have an extra switchable red lense.

I did download WinSplit-Revolution(.com) to test if their screen splitter would contain S&T within the box frame when switched to full screen mode. It will not. Still scratching my head.

If you feel adventuresome, you might check in the registry. I see a WindowPos setting under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Automap\15.0. The last digits are the window size so maybe changing the height would fool S&T 2008 into not using the whole screen. I didn't try it though so your on your own.

Excellent suggestion; thank you! I will put in the mix of considerations.

Field Test of Compass
I used the Compass program, today, on an extended trip. I had it set to "Always on Top" and stationed at the bottom of the Full Screen Navigation page. I enjoyed having the Compass data visible, however, I did not like giving up the data at the bottom of the guidance section: trip bar, distance to turn, etc... The Compass did not cover any of the written directions.

In conclusion, I found the informtion in the lower section of the Nav screen to be more useful and important than the Compass data. I eventually just turned the Compass off... I will continue to search for a screen splitter and test other configurations.
