As you're discovering, Streets&Trips (and Street Atlas) began life as trip planning software and with realtime navigation added on later. Each version brings a little better integration of the two functions. But Streets&Trips remains a trip planning program with nav functions added.

Mobile PC and iGuidance are the other way 'round. Mobile PC is just exactly like Garmin took a Nuvi personal navigation device and stuffed it into your PC. Main priority given to a PND look and feel with adequate trip planning functions available but not as easy to get at.

Software for Netbooks, even those running Linux has been available for some time, it all depends what map coverage you are after, also where you live. About
