I love 7-zip for all the compression formats it supports and because it integrates into Windows Explorer (right-click a file or group of files and you'll see the 7zip options in the context menu). And it's free. Gotta love free.

Thanks for the tip, Ken. That is a new app to me. I so rarely feel the need for zip files any more because so many places take large uncompressed files these days.

The pushpin set has 207 entries and that is just over 20Kb. While there are many POI files that have entries in the thousands, I cannot see myself creating one. So, doubling the TXT capacity should work for most of us.

I don't use them much, either. But I find that nearly every forum allows zip files to be attached so it's a great way to work around any other limitations in file types accepted or file size limitations.

The thing I like best about 7zip is all the formats it will open. I run across RAR files from time to time and it handles them, including seamlessly extracting files and/or folders that have been split across multiple archives. It will even open .ISO CD images and .CAB system files, which I also find handy sometimes.

I take your points, Ken. I cannot think of a single reason not to try it.

.CSV files can now be attached to posts. The maximum size has been initially set to 400 kb. This can easily be increased, just for asking.

.TXT file maximum upload size has been increased to 400 kb.

Let me know if anything doesn't work as expected.

Many thanks!

Unless, of course, you never need to do any of that stuff. In that case, not having it would leave you in the same situation as a fish without a bicycle.

Larry - not sure if you noticed the post I made in my Truck POI topic, but the Loves truckstop file that you download from their site is REALLY messed up. It has locations showing 5 miles from where they are, if they're even listed at all. I downloaded my last one the day before yesterday and it's still WAY off.

I notice the POI sets are sorted alphabetically -- just wondered how you did that....

Good job!

Hmm, good catch, SpadesFlush! I wonder if that's an early indication of a possible new feature in Streets and Trips 2011.

malaki86 - I fell into the trap thinking getting the data from the 'source' would be the best. Use the LOVES pushpin set with caution. If I find a more accurate database I can swap it out. malaki86 - what are you doing this weekend?

lol

Actually, I'm in the middle of Oklahoma on my way to Chicago. I have to be in Chi-town before 6am on Sunday. So, I get the fun of waking up tonight/tomorrow morning at 2am and driving another 650 miles or so. Even with that I'll have about 2 hours left on Sunday morning.

POI Megafile downloads

5 gigabytes worth of Larry's POI Megafile has been downloaded from this site over the past couple of days. Way to go, Larry!!! Looking forward to your next month update!

Larry
Woo-hoo! S&T 2010 users would be crazy not to download this free file. Just think of how great it will be when the LOVES Travel Stops set gets fixed :-)
Marvin - Thanks for being such a gracious host for the file. Now the the S&T team blog has switched to Wordpress I could host it myself but I figure...why mess with a good thing.
