POI Mega File - pushpin collections for truckers, RVers, and other travelers
Tom Bernardi
Larry,
Noticed that several of the Public Campground databases are missing in the August 2013 update? The one I noticed first was Canada - since we are looking to go in 2014, and planning the trip now.

Any chance in a new file?

Good eye Tom. I'll re-post the file before the weekend with the updated Public Campgrounds.

Thanks for your help - but you are giving this old man too much credit - grin!

Larry promised to do it "before the weekend" (it's Tuesday), but he did it in only few hours! Larry doesn't calculate ETA well, LOL!

Tom pointed out that I hadnít updated the Public Campgrounds in the Aug POI Megafile. I just redid those 6 collections and republished.

This time with Canadian Public Campgrounds!

Thanks Larry!

I just installed Mega POI. Could someone explain to me what the difference is between Passport America (D.O.) and just plain Passport America?
Larry
Hi ktoutdoor,

That is a great question that others are asking too. D.O. stands for Discovery Owners. This was the long time source of this data. Then I had the fine folks at Passport America provide me with their latest and greatest collection and it was vastly different. Rather than toss one - I kept both. Call ahead if you plan to stay at a PA location just to be sure.

Is there an eta for the next version of the mega file? I was hoping for something more current before I started planning for next summer
Larry
No ETA yet on the new version. The was a bit of a lull in updates for the pushpin sets. The Discovery Owners website has 5 updated collections since the Megafile came out last (3 Walmarts, 1 Escapees Days End and 1 Military FamCamps). I've got a couple additional collections to update so we're getting close to warranting an update. :-)

A few days ago, I downloaded Streets & Trips 2011 POI Mega File. Looking trough the low clearances POIs, I noticed two low bridges I know of that are not in this file. Would you please pass along the following locations to someone who can put these low bridges into the POI Mega File.

1. Jamestown, North Dakota, railroad underpass at GPS 46.909068, -98.703941, or 4th Ave. SE, between 1St. E and 2 St. NE. The underpass height is posted 12 ft. - 1 inches.

2. Johnstown, Pennsylvania, railroad underpass at GPS 40.349247, -78.942734, or Laurel Ave. between D St. and Broad St. ( Route 403). The underpass height is posted 11 ft. - 8 inches.

I could not find a link on Streets and Trips Team Blog to report low bridges or other POIs.
I hope this info may help someone.

For some strange reason, my mega poi file lists all of the push pins in reverse alphabetical order but the most annoying thing is, EVERY push pin loads and DISPLAYS. Used to be in older versions that the list appeared and everything was "hidden" until you unlocked it. Loaded a heck of a lot faster, AND I don't care to see anything on the map, that I don't want to see. Everybody have this issue, or is it just me?

Will microsoft ever add a working calendar to ST or is this program just not important enough?

BTW my pushpins ended up in reverse alphabetical order and I do not know how to fix it either. - still useable

Please forgive me, I am a newbie here. I have searched everywhere for the correct format for creating a POI file for Streets and Trips 2013. I find all kinds of information on importing the file, but not how to lay out the file. I have a file in Excel, which I have accumulated on campgrounds. I have lat, long, name, address, state, zip, and phone. I do not know which columns in Excel to put the data in and if I need headers. I would like to know what all I can put in this upload, ie. a comment. If I could get my hands on an example Excel file with all the supported fields in the correct order, I would be most grateful.

thanks

It seems that you already have the information ready for importing into S&T; have you tried importing it yet?

When you use the Import Data Wizard (Ctrl-I), you will be prompted for those sorts of things.

The Import Data Wizard cannot accommodate comments.

The order gets sorted out by the Wizard.

Without the poi mega file this program is not as valuable. Same with very low frequency updates. Is MS abandoning S&T ?

What is a better alternative?
