POI Mega File - pushpin collections for truckers, RVers, and other travelers
Woodycapt
I downloaded the POI megafile and used it once. Now when I load the program (Streets and Trips) I can not bring up the larger POI file, only the one that came with the program. What am I doing wrong?

Replacing older Mega file with latest

Good morning!

I began mapping our June trip several weeks ago. I have a new laptop (yea!) and reinstalled S&T and also updated the mega POI file .....which I love!
Question: is there a way to get that updated file into the map I have already begun?

Question: the font size in legend and overview is huge (Windows 8.1 & latest Mega file). Anything I can do about that without making the font on the map so small I can't read it?

Thanks, Stacey
Larry
Try going to the Tools menu and clicking on the 'options' link. In the Options dialog, click on the "Map" tab and then change your Map font size to something bigger.

The map font size is something that is saved to the map file itself which means if you create a map and adjust the font size and save it - then that font size will be the same the next time you open it (or share it with someone else).

Without the poi mega file this program is not as valuable. Same with very low frequency updates. Is MS abandoning S&T ?

What is a better alternative?
Now official MS abandoning S&T

is the poi mega file still being updated? I know that streets and trips is no longer being supported. But I don't know if the mega file is still being updated. If not what was the last date- aug 2013?

I think Larry has been moved to a new group within Microsoft , so I doubt it is being supported.

Hey All,

Just a quick update - After more than a decade, I am no longer at Microsoft. I won't be updating the POI Megafile but encourage others to DIY update on at least the collections that are important to you. I wasn't doing anything that required some special access or insider knowledge. If you get stuck or have questions this is a great place to ask.

Best wishes to all,
Larry

I am very sorry to read this, Larry. I frequently got the impression that you were carrying the entire family of Microsoft navigating products almost alone on your back and doing a great job of it, too! I thought you handled the product and its users very skillfully and it is now well and truly the end of an era. I can only imagine the effort it took to keep Microsoft feeding the product family until it was no longer sustainable.

I am pleased to continue to be a user of both Streets and Autoroute (used just yesterday as a matter of fact) but I guess that just marks me as a true dinosaur.

In any event, I wish you the very best in wherever your career takes you. You have a community of friends here and I hope you will free to call upon us if you need any help just as we have been able to do with you these past ten years.

This is probably a foregone conclusion, but just to make sure,

THIS:
Streets2013_POI_MegaFile.Aug.stt

...is the final version of the "MegaFile" correct?

But SOME of the categories in it have been updated, and those are here:

Is that about the gist of it?
SpadesFlush
Almost absolutely certainly, yes, final.

Thanks for the reminder. I had been so stuck on the Mega File that I had forgotten
to look for individual categories.
I took me a few minutes to remember how to update those.
Thanks again
