City and ZIP code in Route Planner missing

Need a little help with this, its driving me crazy!

If I input an address manually or copy and paste into Route Planner the resulting list has address, city and zip code. Which means I have to input one at a time.

If I use Data Wizard and an excel spreadsheet I only get the Street Address. No City or ZIP CODE.

Is it me? Or is it as I expect an easy answer to this?

Did you set the fields in the Import Wizard to recognize the City & Zip Codes as individual fields?

Yes, I did. And when Microsoft Streets and Trips is searching you can tell it is using all the info, as in when it asks to make a choise of somekind. The City and Zip is there. It never makes it to the ROUTE PLANNER.grrrrrrrrr

Maybe to clarify and and run a sanity check.

I just tried a test with 2 addresses in text form.

I copied and pasted both directly into ROUTE PLANNER.

Shows City and Zip.

Then I pasted them into Excel.

Seperate column for Street address, city and zip.

Import Data Wizard imports the spreadsheet finds the addresses.

BUT does not display the city or state in route planner? Only the street address.

This sounds like you need to do one more step. After you have imported your POI's, go to the Legends and Overview Pane and double click on the pushpin set you have just created. When the inset window opens, there will be a tab that shows balloon options. Make sure that the information you want to show is checked in that tab.

I tried that. Unfortunately it only shows more info in the balloons.
Still not CITY STATE or ZIP CODE in Route Planner...

I am using S&T2010; I don't know what you are using, Bill. But what I see is as follows.

When I import the data from an Excel spreadsheet, they come in as Pushpins, not Route Stops. The only way I can see to get those addresses into Route Planner is to convert the Pushpins to Stops, via Route>Add pushpins as stops. When it does that, it only includes the first data field of the pushpin. For instance, if the first line of the pushpin bubble is "Joe's House", then that's all that will show in the Route Planner. Call that a limitation of S&T. However, the good news is that the addresses, including city and state but not ZIP, DO show in the Driving Directions in square brackets [], and will show in the printed directions. If your first column is the street address, then that will be repeated within the brackets, so it might be better to name the stop on the spreadsheet.

IF this is not good enough for you, the only work-around I can think of is to then rename each of the stops which of course may not be too convenient.

I am using 2009.

Thanks for the additional info, that may help me come up with a permanent fix or workaround.

My bottom line is to be able to print out a map ( which I can do of course ) and to print out a list of stops ( not directions )in order, to include the full address ( city and or zip would work).

Then, what I would add would be as follows but it adds a bit of complexity.

When you've got all the stuff you want into a Route, then copy the Driving Directions (right-click on the Directions, then copy directions). Then, paste these directions into an empty spreadsheet and either hide or delete the unwanted direction lines (which should be only a few clicks) and print that.

Thanks, I have tried that one and a couple of others. That method works okay.
My problem is that I have to do that and other convoluted steps to accomplish what I need. The seconds and minutes add up, I am trying to stream line it all. I can have anywhere from 25 to over 100 stops in a day and the directions get a bit long.
Buttttttt such is life, you cant have it all. Even with computers.

Bill, This might be the basis of a request for a new feature to be added to the 2011 Wishlist that the Forum runs.

For instance, could users have the option of suppressing Driving Direction instruction lines if the line does not include specific Stop information? Or, an option to show/print just Stops?

There is probably a better way to express this...
