I have an r2h with S&T 2007 and SA2008 on it. Of the 2, S&T has a less busy interface. I have never used either of them for navigating though. Garmin Mobile PC and iNav iGuidance have better interfaces for a small touch screen.

I will also say, I hope ASUS improved the built-in GPS on the v model. The one on the r2h is brain dead. It requires 2+ minutes to obtain satellite lock after virtually any non-use period.

I have had better luck getting a signal depending on weather conditions. This is the only GPS I have ever owned and my main reason for upgrading is the fact that S&T 2007 won't re-route if you miss a turn which happened on a vacation in St. Louis, MO. I stopped by Best Buy with intent of buying S&T 2008 because it was on sale for $29 and then I saw SA 2009 for $39 and thought I would do a little research before the sale went off.
I can't say that I use it for navigating very much but I would like to make some custom maps marking fire hydrant locations in our city (work for the fire dept.)

With the release of Street Atlas USA 2009, you can choose an Ultra Mobile mode, you still have the same functionality that you have with the regular install, however, we turn off some of the tabs, and remove some items from the toolbar to make the screen less cluttered and give you more map real estate on the small screen. This is the UMPC default setting and you can modify if you choose.

Thanks Shannon, I think I'm going to holdup awhile before I buy anything. My R2H started acting up I may have to send it in for repair. It shut down and wouldn't power on for awhile, now the bluetooth is gone.

I too am new to Street Atlas. I suggest you do what Marvin told me; just keep searching and looking at every tab. There is a lot more in there than it looks like on the surface.

Find something you're looking for, and can't find, and post a question on this forum. There are a lot of smart, knowledgeable people here that will help you.

Lots of luck.

POI issues aside, should I rush out and buy SA 9 or keep on using SA 8?

...buy another Street Atlas 2009 perhaps?

:welcome: to Laptop GPS World, erickbond.

The license is good for one primary user, as far as I know. If your uncle is using the software already, you may need to buy a new one for yourself.

I'm also a newbie, just got an asus 10" umpc and SA2009/LT40. I could not get the 3D view to work.
I found a thread on the delorme forum which said to switch to 16bit color. It worked!
This may be common knowledge to most, but it sure helped me out, may help someone else. I'm really enjoying the new umpc, it's the 1000HD model.

Hi Gary,

:welcome: to the forums!

Thanks for the tip about the 16 bit color. Also some older video adapters may cause issues with 3D. My old PC was unable to deal with Street Atlas 2009 3D mode, so I decided to retire the old beast. My new 12 inch convertible laptop/tablet works just fine .

Have you already managed to think of some mounting solution for your UMPC? If you one day feel like it, take a few pictures of your setup, and share them with us.

hi, i am new to this board, but i have tried to read as much as i can.

i am looking at a laptop / pda solution, and was considering this combo:

buy an i.trek m7, and buy SA 2009. will they work on my IPAQ 2210 and HP Laptop with XP?

THanks.
