Transferring route from Streets & Trips to portable device
Daren12
Hello,
I have been using Streets and Trips for about 5 years now. I see the new version says your can export ot a portable device. What I need to do is make my route, optimize it on Streets and Trips and then export to a Garmin, TomTom, etc. Can this be done easily?

Thanks,
Daren

The process to a Garmin device is pretty easy. I don't think S&T supports transfer of routes to a TomTom as the transfer creates a GPX file which I think is Garmin's file format.

You may find some of discussion in this thread useful:

GPX file format is an open standard. It's just a special purpose XML file. Even us humans can read it (open in a text editor like Notepad).

There are lots of file converters out there, like GPSBabel, which will convert between a variety of formats. You probably would not have any difficulty saving a GPX file, converting to a format that the TomTom will read and using it.

Here's a web site that gives you an online interface to GPSBabel so you can use it any time without having to install it on your computer.

GPS Visualizer: Web interface to GPSBabel

The GPX file that Streets&Trips creates only contains the waypoints (stops) in the route file so when you load it into your device you need to tell it to recalculate the route for you. But it saves having to manually enter all the route points into the device.
