Incorrect / Missing Addresses & Data in Streets and Trips 2010
Tom47
The 2010 version of Microsoft Streets and Trips has many missing / unavailable addresses and POI data that was present in the 2009 version. I have also see situations where the northern half of a smaller town and one town name and zipcode and the southern half had another town name and zipcode.

Are others experiencing this frustration and is there a fix I am not aware of?

Thanks

Hello Tom,

Can you please give us some specific examples here so we can test to be sure it's the map data that's bad and not just a bad distribution copy? It's unusual for stuff that's in one year's maps to go missing in the next.

... also, make sure you have enabled the desired POI category...

... and Tom, :welcome: to Laptop GPS World.

Ken,

Try this address:
48 N Emerson Ave, Greenwood IN 46143

I get two possibilities for the same address....one is wrong. Why two possibilities for one address?

Here is another:

5402 Sugar Grove Rd., Plainfield, IN 46168

Let me know if you get a hit on this one in 2010.

Here is a third:
Cracker Barrel
429 E Margaret Ave
Terre Haute IN 47802

There is a little North/South access road the takes one to the actual location that is missing in the 2010 version that was there is the 2009 version.

Are you saying there may be a difference between the downloaded version and the DVD release version?? That is how I did it. I installed the downloaded version and just entered the Product ID when the DVD arrived.

Very interesting.

The address on N Emerson ends up with two results on mine as well. What is most interesting is that neither of them are on N Emerson. One is on S Emerson and the other is over in a crescent called Byrd Way. Definitely map data errors.

For the Sugar Grove Rd in Plainfield I'm getting a number of suggestions for Sugar Grove Ave in Indianapolis. I can't get a hit on any street with "sugar" in the name in Plainfield.

I typed "craker barrel, terre haute, in, usa" (my mispelling) into the search bar and I got the Cracker Barrel on 429 E Margaret Dr. just east of US 41/150. I don't see any access road.

No, I'm not saying there's a difference between the DVD and the download version. There is none. What I was suggesting was that if you got it on DVD it might have been a glitch on the DVD or if you downloaded it there might have been a glitch in the download file.

However, at the same time as I checked your locations in Streets&Trips 2010 I also checked the same data in Garmin's City Navigator North America 2010.1. I get a hit on the one on N Emerson in Garmin's maps in what looks like a good location, right by Caldwell Travel a couple blocks North of E. Main St. ... a block or so South of the Wal-Mart.

I get the same results on the Sugar Rd location (none) in both Streets&Trips and Garmin City Navigator.

Both of them find the Cracker Barrel in Terre Haute and neither of them show the "service road". (I also looked at Garmin City Navigator 2009 and it was not there, either.)

I took a look on Google Maps and I can see what you mean about the "service road" leading back into the Cracker Barrel parking lot. My guess is that it's a private road that might be considered just part of the parking lot and removed since 2009 as an error. But that's just a guess. Interestingly, Google Maps points at the Cracker Barrell in its proper location, south of the main road. Streets&Trips and Garmin both show it out on Margaret Rd.

None of that will make you feel any better but at least it will confirm that there is nothing wrong with your installation.

If you are interested in pointing out the problems to Navteq so they will be corrected in a future version, here's a link to their Map Reporter. It's really simple to use.

Next time could you please find errors in the Canadian parts so I don't have to keep typing USA into all the test addresses? Thanks.

Ken,

Thx for letting me know you got the same results.

I have sent Feedback to MS on these issues. Too bad we can't update sooner.

Thanks

Here's another one in S&T 2010

425 SUNRISE WAY SOUTH, PALM SPRINGS, CA

Microsoft has some real problems with 2010 data accuracy and missing streets compared to the 2009 version. I think they should address it now and put out an update. We should all write MS and make this request. I use this software in my business and have lost a lot of confidence in the software. They probably won't do anything cause it will cost them tons of money to redistribute.

Shouldn't be 'tons' if it is simply a download available on the website.

I am very disappointed with 2010. Try mapping a route from Harrisburg, PA to 220 Phillips Rd., Exton, PA.

Near the routes end it will have you cross 76 Turnpike northbound, then right on some side roads. Then you'll need to build a jump ramp and floor the car for the jump back over the turnpike.

Terrible....

We keep going back to Streets & Trips 2007 because of missing map data here in Palm Harbor FL. We use the mapping for delivery routes in our business. No addresses on US-19 will not show up in 2009 and 2010 for Palm Harbor, Clearwater or Tarpon Springs. I just installed a trial version 2010 to see if it has been fixed. NOT! This version again is worthless for us.
None of these show in 2009 or 2010. They are all legitimate business addresses:

33139 US-19 N, Palm Harbor, FL 34684
40545 US-19 N, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689
30144 US-19 N, Clearwater, FL 33761

All of these addresses do show correctly on Bing maps. This is the format of the address that does work in Streets & Trips 2007. We have also tried other formats such as US Highway 19 N, but none work in Streets & Trips. VERY FRUSTRATING and very disappointing.

This seems like a legitimate complaint.

I compared it to Garmin CNNANT of about the same vintage and the addresses are there as far as NavTeq, the map data supplier, is concerned. It seems S&T forgot to put street addresses in that section of US-19.

I did some testing in Streets & Trips 2010. If I use "US Highway 19" in the address, I get a hit just on "US Highway 19" but not with an address. However, I do not get the same location for all three addresses, even though in each case I'm getting the hit on "US Highway 19".

I wonder if it's trying to somehow intersect the nearest point on US 19 (line) with the location (point) of the city?

I did the same alternate test as Terry and I get hits on the addresses in Mapsource 6.16.2 using both City Navigator North America 2009 and City Navigator North America 2011.1. As Terry said, Navteq supplies the data for those maps as well as to Microsoft for Streets&Trips. Odd.

If you look on the 31xxx block of US-19 in S&T, you will see addresses are given (I just clicked on the road and they showed). I think S&T missed part of the database for address numbers on a large section of that highway. We've seen that error in other places.

Terry

Sorry, that is 26xxx. I must have been looking at the zip code!

33139 US-19 N, Palm Harbor, FL 34684
40545 US-19 N, Tarpon Springs, FL 34689
30144 US-19 N, Clearwater, FL 33761

The addresses are in 3 different cities. When you try to find them on Streets & Trips, they will show up as a generic US-19 address in a spot on US-19 in each of those cities. I guess it's trying to intersect the zip code and US-19 to come up with a location?

This is a heavily populated business corridor. I have not been able to get even one business address to show up on US-19 in any of these towns. I contacted Microsoft back when I saw this in Streets & Trips 2009, but I got ignored. They obviously didn't even check on this or it would have been corrected for 2010.

4810 W Highway 98, Panama City, FL is at a wrong location. All hotels on the W. Hwy 98 are wrong, an update of Streets and Trips is needed.

Before I download the 2011 trial, can someone check to see if any of these addresses come up in S&T new version? It would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. I've been waiting since the 2008 version for it to be corrected. (As you can tell, I don't have a lot of confidence that it's been corrected).

I can find all 3 of those address in S&T 2011 by entering US-19 and forgetting about the N. Since I don't live anywhere near these places I can't tell if they are the correct locations or not but they all are found with the exact address entered (33139, 40545 and 30144).
