After two month use with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008 my Pharos GPS-500 appears to have stopped working. The unit was purchased w/2007 about 14 months ago. Was working 1 week ago. (the message I get is that the Comm port is available but no signal is being recieved) When I attemp to Config. the GPS, Com3 is the only one available and I select OK then check Start GPS tracking. This is when I get the message. Does anyone have any ideas.

Most likely it is is Windows problem, as the GPS units are pretty rugged, especially those that are hard-wired. I would suggest you uninstall S&T and then re-install it and see if this cures the problem. Also, be sure you have no other program running that might steal the port.

Is it true that Microsoft will not allow but two downloads from each disk?

Mike, I think you are asking if you can install (not download) Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008 more than twice. You can "activate" your software installation on up two computers. In your case, if you are considering to reinstall Streets & Trips on the same computer, the activation process should recognize you are activating the program on the same laptop (unless hardware was added or changed), and it should let you activate again (and again ).

The error message you received sometimes just indicates your GPS receiver cannot see sufficient number of satellites yet. It could be you are testing indoor(?), or the GPS receiver just needs longer time to acquire satellite fix (bring it outdoor, and give it even up to 20 minutes, and then try to start Streets & Trips).
