Using Excel and pushpin data sets
boomer126
I use Microsoft Streets and Trips to route home inspections. I use an Excel spreadsheet as my data, and then import this data into a master map on S&T. Every time I update Excel, I have to delete the pushpins in Streets & Trips, and re-import the data from Excel sheet.

My question is the following: Is there a way that I can link the Excel sheet and the master map so that if I update the Excel sheet data it automatically adds the new address and pushpin to my master map in S&T.

Nope.

Since you are using it for business purposes you should consider Mappoint. It's like Streets&Trips on steroids. It does everything that Streets does but it integrates with Microsoft Office very nicely.

For business purposes Mappoint is a cheap solution. You can download a free 60-day trial. Fully functional. It just quits working after 60 days if you decide not to buy it.

Did that, but the price does not justify the functionality.

Do you have other stuff on the map? If not, don't bother deleting the old pushpin set (not that that's such a lot of work). Just open a new map and import the updated pushpin set.

Check tip 30, bottom of page 2, to see if that helps any

Ki4nai, that is a very cool tip but I think OP was thinking about the opposite direction; i. e., updates made to excel file then automatically up-dated to the S&T file.

Perhaps if he revises his workflow to make the changes in S&T and have the worksheet get its data from S&T, he could use your approach. This has its limitations, however, given the truncated export criteria of S&T.

This is correct, I would rather update in Excel, as it is easier than trying to work around S&T limitations, so working in Excel is much faster than from Streets & Trips. I also work with data sets for different areas and counties, so updating these is a bit cumbersome in Streets & Trips. I also use images of new houses as pushpins in case I get bad address so having one location for update is key for me, as I just receive about 30-50 a new inspections a week, and still have to inspect old jobs too.

No problem, just a suggestion, I'm still working on a way to update Excel, and posting to S&T using this method, but taking longer than expected.
