Custom MP3 files for GPS POIs

Newer GPS systems can play mp3's instead of having a standard alert when they approach a POI. GPS devices can be customized with mp3 files.

Rename both the MP3 and image files to identical names before uploading them to your GPS devices for them to be associated to each other.
For example files:
7_Eleven_store_ahead.mp3
7Eleven.bmp

needs to be renamed to:
7Eleven.mp3
7Eleven.bmp
or to
7_Eleven_store_ahead.mp3

Wow, a lot of work must have gone into this! Do you plan on supporting these files in your future versions of POI Scanner for Microsoft Streets & Trips?

Yes, eventually when time permits, I plan on finishing the sound play tab of the POI scanner. There one will be able to select which sound file they want to be played for the alert instead of having dings, chimes etc for alerts. The added bonus in preparing these files is that they also benefit users of other brands of GPS devices. Newer devices can play MP3 files. These can used to substitute the standard alert when a POI activates it.

I also intend to add code for the scanner to indicate the range of detection since a user can select different distances for the scanner. I've found I tend to forget which I selected. So the scanner might play a message like "airport ahead" then follow with "distance 500 meters" if this was the distance selected in the distance tab.

Call me computer illiterate, but all I can do is play the sound clips. How can I save them to my computer. It keeps telling me i need Quick time Pro. Any suggestions or help.

If you are using IE, right click on the file and choose Save Target As... from the drop down menu. Pick a location you can find later and save them there. Virtually anything can play an mp3 file - QT Pro or otherwise is not required. You aren't using an Apple product are you?
