PC doesn't recognize Microsoft Streets and Trips installation DVD
jtill
After loading Streets & Trips on my laptop, I tried to load the program on my home PC. The system or program did not recognize the CD. It kept telling me to to put the CD in the D drive. It was in the D drive & under run was D:/setup_ST.exe. I tried going through the control panel to load a new program. That failed as well. I don't know what else to do in order to get the program to load. Any ideas?

No, it should start automatically when you insert the DVD. You already tried opening the correct letter for your DVD drive and running setup. Make sure there is no dirt or finger prints on your disk. Try another DVD to make sure your DVD reader works ok.

I have a CD with Streets and Trips that came with my Pharos 500-III GPS receiver. It doesn't work in any CD Rom drive. What do I do? Can I get a free download online somewhere? I just want to start using this GPS finally.

I think Streets&Trips comes on a DVD, doesn't it? If so, it won't work in a CD drive.

Ken:
That makes sense. I had trouble loading the 2007 copy we had not realizing it probably was a DVD. The program loaded fine on the laptop. Is a laptop both CD & DVD?

Hi Jack,

That depends on how new the laptop is. If it's reasonably new it will have a DVD drive in it. The DVD drives they install in computers are all multi-media drives. That is, they can read both CDs and DVDs.

If in doubt, look at the outside of the door on the drive tray - there are specific logos for CD / CD-RW / DVD-ROM / DVD-RW.
