I was horrified to learn today that Garmin had discontinued the CD version of BlueChart map data and dropped nRoute.
I use my 76CSx and a laptop as a chart plotter when sailing on the West coast of Canada and in the Virgin Islands area of the Caribbean.
Do I have all of the following right?
- I have MapSource (6.15.7), nRoute 2.7.6, BlueChart Americas v9.00. Nobody can take this away, so I can always use it.
- I can never get any newer BCAMR data on my laptop now.
- I can buy MicroSD cards with newer data (BlueChart, but not the g2 or g2-Vision), but since I rarely look at the little screen on the 76CSx, there isn't much point. This map data cannot be copied to the laptop.
- HomePort doesn't help me in any way.
- If I junk all this and buy Fugawi or MapTech, they'll work with my 76CSx but even if they didn't (or I choose some other system) I can use gpsgate to translate to NMEA.
