Catagorize POI Pushpin Sets
Crazy Chris
Oh my! Larry and Goodwin have created a monster! I've been using Streets & Trips since 2003, but have always relied on the canned "nearby places" function. Now, I have been introduced to the POI pushpin set management in S&T 2010, and have been pointed the way to the POI Mega File, POI-factory and other online POI repositories. Oh my! I'm hooked!

The trouble is, my list of POI pushpin sets is growing by the minute. What would be really nice would be the ability create folders to sort pushpin sets into (e.g. fuel, stores, attractions, camping, etc.) so that I don't have to wade through this loooooong and ever-growing list of sets. Instead, I could show (or hide) the category I'm interested in.

If this has been suggested before, consider this my "I second the motion."

Regards, Chris

Chris, in past versions, without the new Hide/Show pushpin management features added in version 2010, I suspect not too many of us were into using pushpins too much. Now that Streets & Trips 2010 is here, I think users will start asking for the feature you are suggesting. You are the first one, but I'm sure not the last one.

Great suggestion Chris. I've got so many collections loaded into a single file that it can sometimes take some time to find a specific pushpin set to show. These are brand new concerns that never used to exist.

As these pushpin collections grow (thanks Larry and Gladwin for assembling these!), it is becoming apparent that more organizational tools might be in order. In addition to the very-good suggestions of the original poster, it would be nice if you could at least sort the sets alphabetically. The latest circulated EST and AXE files reflect this with the newest at the top. This is OK for a while, but if there are a lot of additions (as I hope there will be), then some organization of the sets will be useful to find what you want.

Along the same vein, maybe the Search facility should be useable to search for specifically-named pushpin sets or to find sets with the search criteria. Right now, if you do a search for "RV" you will get some results but nothing to do with pushpin sets that you might have in the file.

I agree. I've added new pushpin sets and deleted/updated existing ones. Sure would be nice to be able to at least sort them alphabetically. Hopefully when Streets and Trips 2011 comes out.

It doesn't appear that S&T 2011 has the capability of sorting the pushpins. At least I haven't found it.

No, the feature is not there yet, but people are asking for it:

Perhaps something for the product group to consider to implement for Streets & Trips 2012

Thank you. Guess I have to hope for it in 2012- Sure would be a nice feature.
