Can I use a PND or a PDA Phone as a GPS receiver for Garmin Mobile PC?

Hi All

I've just discovered this forum and think it's really great.
So here's my question :

I have a Nuvi 310 and a HTC Touch 2 (with Garmin XT loaded onto it).
Can I connect either of these units to my laptop to use as GPS receiver with Garmin Mobile PC?

Thanks

I don't know about the HTC Touch. If it's possible it won't likely be simple. You would need to run some sort of app to shove the GPS data out the USB port.

The Nuvi 310 might. Some Nuvi models will send the GPS data out the USB port if you perform a complicated ritual in just the right way.

If memory serves it's something like this:

- Turn the Nuvi on.
- Press the battery indicator for 10 or 15 seconds.
- This puts the Nuvi into diagnostic mode.
- Press exit
- Plug in the USB cable.

I was too lazy to look up the exact sequence of the ritual and the above is just from memory. If I've missed something I welcome correction.

Steps are right except you have to connect the USB cable to the Nuvi and computer before you press 'Exit'.

Ooops, perhaps that's why I couldn't get mine to work. I'll have to try it again the right way. I guess by now I should know better than to go from memory for anything more complicated than my name....

Hi Ken
Thanks for the reply - I've managed to go to the diagnostic page but on my Nuvi 310 there is no EXIT button - I have to restart the unit to get out of the diagnostic page.
