I'm trying to track down a driver to associate my GPS76 (Garmin) via serial port USB cable with either an Asus EEE 701 on Windows 7 or a Dell B120 full size laptop with Linux Ubuntu.
I would prefer to use the Asus as it is solid state and as such bullet proof, but Dell is basically a brick as far as age/speed so both are candidates.
I have the serial to USB converter cable already-bought way back when, but never installed on either of these units. The original computer is long gone.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try the Prolific PL-2303 driver. It might work with your serial to USB converter.

Hi, I had the same problems with Windows 7 64 bit and my GPS76csx until I downloaded the driver update from Garmin and it now works.

There are no doubt more suitable adapters, but this one from China was cheap, and it works for me.
