Thanks for the information. Quite a few changes are listed but I think it is time for a new program. I see they may have removed the Garmin GPS problem but don't have one to test (my 10x has always worked with the software version).

I'm downloading it right now. As soon as I get it installed I'll check it out with my eTrex Legend HCx and my GPS10x. All previous versions have refused to use both of them.

The eTrex Legend HCx works now. It took a couple of tries to find the unit ID but it found it and it's happy. Now I need to track down my Bluetooth dongle to test the GPS10x.

They've fixed the route transfer from Mapsource so if you transfer when there are multiple routes on the Routes tab you will get the route details transfered properly for all routes rather than being forced to transfer one route at a time.

I also transfered a bunch of waypoints and the names no longer get truncated or converted to all caps. I don't know if this is a change in Mobile PC or in the latest Mapsource (6.15.11).

Categories do not transfer with the waypoints. Symbols do.

I just installed the Garmin Mobile PC 5.00.70 update. I was a bit hesitant to do the update, as my two earlier version updates resulted in the software not starting. This time around, however, I've experienced no such issues. The program started just fine after the installation completed. It actually appears to start a bit faster, but this may just be my subjective and incorrect observation.

One negative thing I noticed is a missing keyboard shortcut that I use very often, the Enter-key; it no longer switches from the navigation mode to the "Browse map" screen. I need to tap (or click) the small "Browse map" button in the bottom left corner of the map instead. Too bad, 71 items fixed, one item broken.

Hi Marvin,

My reaction is also that it feels just a little crisper in operation .. just a wee bit more responsive pretty much everywhere.

A touch faster startup on the HP but calculate route is still pokey.

They have added a Go button to the browse screen. Click on a location and select Go for a route. It doesn't work properly though. If you have a route and select another stop, neither Add as via choice works.

One thing that seems improved is the GPS search. It doesn't seem much faster but I can actually change it from serial to Bluetooth without restarting the program. Recent versions have ignored my selection and continued searching where they were before intervention. I will test it a bit further as that was annoying.

Re: the GPS search, I always found it best to hit the Disable button, switch types (serial, Bluetooth, USB) and then hit Enable. Doing it that way I never had any troubles with persuading it to change what type it was searching for if it seemed necessary.

I've noticed one small annoyance remains. Sometimes when you run it with no receiver attached, when it pops the dialog about not finding a receiver and asking if it should continue searching Yes/No, clicking on the No button doesn't work. You can click until your finger is worn out and it will do nothing. But if you hit the "N" key it reacts immediately.

Exactly how I was doing it Ken. But for me, it has not been effective since 5.00.30.

However, I just tested the Yes/No button GPS search thing with 5.00.60 (XP), 5.00.00 (Win 7) and 5.00.70 (XP) and it works fine here.

Must be gremlins!

I wouldn't be surprised about the gremlins. Ever since I let Microsoft Update install IE8 on this computer it has had some occasional odd behaviour. IE8 seems to work fine on my Win7 computer but it doesn't seem to play perfectly nicely with XP Pro.

No Pro here but I have IE8 on the XP computer running 5.00.70 and IE7 on the one with 5.00.60.

We have to get together someday to sort out these anomolies. But I'll probably be all Win 7 (or whatever is next) by then!

Seems crisper now. I also noticed a "tab" in the lower right corner to shrink or adjust size. The chime alerting turns or arriving at destination sounds different?

The Garmin Online Weather feature has returned !!

Now it has:

- Weather
- Hotels.com Rates
- Fuel Prices
- Flight Status (FlightStats.com)
